So i just finished installing my new receiver since my gladiator did not come with it. Just wanted to give a few tips and tricks to help anyone else who plans on doing it.
I went with the factory Mopar hitch.
Overall it is very simple to do if you are slightly handy.
First you DO NOT have to remove the spare tire. Every video I watch said to remove it but it doesn't get in the way at all.
There are a couple of wires that you needs to unclip and pull out where it clips to the frame.
I removed the bumper which is 2 bolts under the license plate and 4 nuts, 2 on each side where it connects. Again very easy todo with a 16mm socket.
Once the bumper is removed I would recommend loosening the bolts that hold your tow hooks in place, this way you have leverage.
After that I went and loosened all of the bolts that hold the existing bracket to the frame. 4 on each side. I placed a large cooler with a 2x4 to prop it up while i took those 4 bolts out.
Remove the 2 clips from the old mount where it connects behind the bumper and move those on to the new receiver.
Getting the new hitch in place with 1 person is tricky but i was able to do it. I used the same cooler and manipulated it in to place, putting 1 of the bolts in to hold it in place while i put the other in.
I reinstalled the tow hooks and cranked them down.
I finger tightened everything to get it where it needed to be and then tightened the 4 bolts down.
I reattached the bumper, only finger tightening until all was in place then i cranked them down.
Reattached all of the wire hookups and re-clipped them to the frame.
All set. Like I said really easy to do. it took me about an hour and 15 minutes. The dealer quoted me 3 hours and a total of $363 to install it.
