Doing my HPFP recall today

I have a question for you i just had my new HPFP installed now when I turn off the jeep i can hear what sounds like a electric motor running from the HPFP for about a minute then it turns off and its not the def fluid return sound. Its coming from the HPFP is this normal? Thanks.

That is 100% normal. They all do that and it’s actually the fuel quantity solenoid actuating. Has nothing to do with the diesel exhaust fluid as the diesel exhaust fluid is located near the fuel tank in the rear of the vehicle and only runs halfway up the exhaust system itself. It’s nowhere near the engine at all.

Thank you for the quick response I just don't remember the old one being this loud. And I messed up typing about the diesel exhaust fluid it was supposed to say not the diesel exhaust fluid return sound. Thank you.

Why do the new pumps require new lines? Are they positioned differently on the replacement pump?

With the fuel pressures these systems see, anytime the lines are loosened/removed that line is replaced because if reused can deform affecting flow rates when tightened and or introduce metal into the system. Given the pressures involved in these systems this is not somewhere to take shortcuts. This article I have posted lays out some of the reasons why. Just like torque to stretch bolts the lines serve a critical purpose and can/should be used only one time. I hope this explains the why.

HIgh pressure injection lines are one time use only

Other than part number nothing externally visual.....im told its actually an older pump used on the gen 2 ED that wasn't as susceptible to USLD diesel issues

Is a new fuel filter part of the recall. Should install new pump, test drive than change filter.

I hear that noise now on my 22 JT Diesel. Did not know what it was, but I have not had the recall done yet. And thanks to the poster who identified it. Glad to hear it is normal.

Update for my jeep is still waiting on parts, jeep still hasn’t approved a rental for me that’s an AWD or 4WD.

Being patient and optimistic.

But yeah OP I was outta line…

I am now really curious if this pump will actually be the answer.

Can't be. Mine was built around March '21 and got recalled.
