Dropped the truck off this morning for the 5.38 gear swap and locker install. Also took a new Rusty's HD steering kit for them to install. I took the new stabilizer out this weekend to paint it. Wife just called when she put her doorless JKU in the hangar because of rain coming. Dumbass me forgot to put it back in the box when it was dry. Now another 2 hour round trip this evening or early morning to take it up there.

Oh well. Looking forward to the new gears. Will be great to have torque back. Lockers will be awesome for the wheelin' trip to Hidden Falls planned this coming weekend.

Oof, you still have breaking in of the gears to do before the weekend...usually 500ish miles at under 50. I mean it can be done, I did it in a week, but just be ready to drive the shit out of it slowly and at varying rpms.

5.38s with 37s! Wow that's deep.
Has anyone herd of the REM polish ? No break in or oil change needed. Priemer West Gears has it. Lots of info on it there.
For me I think 4.88s and Dana Spicer gears would do it.

My opinion, 5.38 is aggressive, but not too deep. And, once these 37's are done, 40's are going on.

Never heard of REM polish. I do remember back in the day that you just swapped gears and go. I swapped from 3.08 to 3.73 in my old '70 Camaro and never had issues. All my racing buddies did as well. Even the old '62 Scout that my Dad put a 350 in. Had to go with a shorter gear because of the V8 torque. Never an issue with it either.

Ordered 5.38s last week for my 6 speed. Shop is booked through Thanksgiving so I'll have to break in the engine and the gears back to back which is not what I had hoped for. Going to leave the stock 33s in place. By my calculations 3k in 6th will be 76mph which is adequate around here.

I think 5.38s are perfect for someone actually going to off road more seriously. I went with 5.38 as well still waiting for my buddy to get then in and install them. I am running 38s now hoping to regain the low end and ability to crawl over some rocks better.

Exactly. And, to keep the ability to tow a few tons with 40's and a V6.

I talked to the shop just a bit ago. Both test drives and initial beak-ins have gone well. Fella says they accelerate like a sports car when 5.38's are in :)

I don't do any crawling but do a couple thousand miles a year off-pavement on forest service and logging roads. Even with 4.10s the Mojave is really sluggish coming out of corners in third, and I don't want to run around in second all day. Currently it's a 4 speed with two useless overdrive gears. 5.38s should make it a 5 speed plus a granny first.

Just drove truck home. Two words....Holy shit! 5.38 and 37's are about perfect for me. Drives awesome now. And, opted for the covers. Can't wait to do some wheelin' this weekend at Hidden Falls.
