Sadly I fell victim to my Mojave getting stolen on Friday morning.

I parked my rig at approx 0030hrs in my assigned parking space in my building as I always do for the last year as I have moved into this place 1 yr ago.

At approx 0630hrs I received a call for work and went to my jeep only to find an empty parking space and no Mojave. I stood there for a few seconds confused and in disbelief that it was stolen, but unfortunately it was. All that was left in my parking spot on the floor was the TINTED Window they broke out of the door to gain entry.

Then I remembered that I had left a Samsung Smart Tag inside and immediately went onto my phone and fired up the app. As the app was loading, I had anger and sadness running through my body. My hands were shaking from adrenaline pulsing through my veins. The app comes on and the icon for the tag in my jeep said, "NOT NEARBY" and I clicked on the SHOW MAP .. and it was last seen at my parking spot at 0237hrs then the next time it got a hit from another Samsung device at a different location around 0458hrs which was about 3 miles away from my home... then the last and final hit was at 0514hrs where it appears to have been stationary at that location. I immediately called one of my co-workers and asked if he could come by my place and pick me up and drive me to last location the TAG was pinging at ... he arrived at my place 0715hrs,,, My jeep was still showing stationary with the most recent update at that same location at approx 0705hrs as somebody with a Samsung Phone was near my Jeep and was able to transmit a fresh location update which was remaining the same. This location was about 4 miles from home... and we were on the way to where it was showing...when we got off the expressway exit I started the "Give Directions" feature, and this SAMSUNG TAG led us to behind a 2-story low income apartment building and as we drove into the parking lot on the side of the building the raod led around to tghe rear of the building and along the left side of the fence 4 vehicles down .. was my Jeep! I was so relieved. A quck scan of the jeep looked like it was a good condition, I could see the driver rear window missing. We continued past the jeep and exited to the street and parked there to watch my jeep while I called the local police. I myself am a Retired Police Officer and once the police dispatcher heard that I had 5 police cars at my location within 2 minutes.. The officers were really cool and very surprised that I was able to track my jeep and find it so fast. As I directed them to the jeep .. we approached but they wanted to wait and not touch anything for possible fingerprints. But my jeep was stolen from a different part of the city that is Covered by METRO DADE PD. So i had to drive back to my home and await that other police dept to come take the stolen vehicle report. After that dept arrived and gave me the case # I returned to my jeep's location where the City of Miami PD were sitting on the jeep. I got the case # from them for the Recovery of the Jeep. I then called State Farm to file a claim and gave them the case # s and State Farm dispatched a TOW to my location for my jeep. One Officer asked me if I had the key fob. I handed it to him but it did not unlock the door. He then used the key and opened the passenger side door and the horn / alarm started beeping like crazy. The officer tried hitting the buttons on the fob with no luck. Apparently, whoever stole it programmed a brand-new key fob which disabled mine ?? As i looked into my Jeep first thing I saw was the 8.4 radio head missing and the cables just hanging out of the dash.. I work mobile a lot so I have lots of paperwork in a seat holder hung on the back of the driver's seat along with a mobile printer and laptop which were under the rear seats...A fast assessment of the interior showed paperwork scattered everywhere and they went through all the paperwork with a fine-tooth comb which is useless for anyone else... they got my RADIO HEAD.. a HP 250 Printer , CF-19 Toughbook Laptop, 1 NOCO Battery Jump Pack, a Set of Handcuffs (although I am retired police officer, I currently own a Bail Bond Business and use the cuffs for work), tools, and an android box that I streamed movies to the radio with and had that in the small caddy hole where the aux switches go... possibly other things were taken but didn't really do a complete search of the interior. The Police dept informed me they did not have any personal working to come fingerprint the jeep .. which was very disappointing as the broken window at my house had good finger print marks on the glass... Just know all the expensive items were missing. As I was removing whatever else I could salvage after the cops left and the tow guy arrived, I saw that they tried to open the Glove Box which I always keep locked as I have a Uniden scanner mounted in there .. they broke the box handle and could not open the glove box after that..I was able to get the box open and low and behold my scanner was still in there untouched. AMEN ! At least that was some good news not to mention I found my Jeep with a $20 Smart Tag which saved the day. My jeep was towed to the Jeep Dealer and State Farm will be sending the Appraiser Jan 3rd to deal with the repairs. I am looking at a $500 deductible at the end of this minus my things that were stolen from inside. and the money its going to cost me to get this jeep all better secured for any future attempts. I will now list some of what I am going to do as this is a public forum and don't need the thieves knowing what I will be doing security wise.

Steering Wheel Old Fashioned Club / Steering wheel to Brake Lock / E-Brake to Shifter Lock .. right there are 3 layers of security. and for the final lock type mechanism that will be a steel homemade lock box that will go over the gas and brake pedal (pictures posted) and secured with a heavy-duty padlock. The area by the brake is too confined for a bolt cutter to get in there and a hacksaw will be futile. (The name of the lock box is called "NO MORE JOY RIDES LLC" find the guy on facebook.)

i am also installing motion alarms to notify my cell via text and email of any disturbance immediacy at my jeep while parked. the 4 steering wheel and brakes locks installed will be all the time I need to place that 4 or 5 minute layer of time to get the all the locks removed and then use a reprogramed fob as they wont be able to step on the brake to start the jeep until these locks are defeated first and by that time I will be already at my jeep and then (censored) The End.

I also will be reviewing the buildings video cameras MONDAY OR TUESDAY and hopefully can either get a clear face or vehicle tag they arrived in (probably stolen?)

here is what I will go on the Brake / Gas Pedal but mine will be ordered in Black not some fancy color..

installing this in my Cupholder .. KEEP TECHNOLOGIES (one of 2 security devices that I will be installing and the other I will not mention in public).
WITH THE cupholder sending my cell instant cellular live video of what's happening outside my jeeps window will provide me the time to get to my jeep and also call 911 on the way to my jeep.

I highly suggest you go buy some Samsung Smart Tags and put one or two inside your Jeeps ! it Saved Mine ! The best $20 Ever spent! Located in 15 minutes.

Yes ! I am very relieved I found it ! I do not think they had enough time to do what they really wanted to do with my Jeep but screw them .. I do not think after they Ripped the Radio Out to disable the GPS that an air tag would foil their theft as i found my jeep super-fast.. although with the stuff they did take was a really nice score for them and a $1000 or more hit for me...... but honestly, I am now going to be a nervous wreck after I get it back and all secured better... I hate Thieves!

No more Joy rides. His name is Michael .. he only takes orders via the phone #.I told him i was going to tell the jeep family about his device ..I was on the phone with him yesterday for over an hour. he was a pleasure to deal with...he does not have a template of the Gladiator Brake / Gas placement as these devices are custom made / vehicle specific .. I will be his 1st Gladiator, so i will go to the dealer on Monday to take some photos of my jeep to send him to start making the GLADIATOR model for my Mojave. if you call him you can mention my name as a reference. Have a good night Jack !

Hate to hear that happened to you but so glad you were able to locate it so fast! I'm sure you would've loved for the thief to come out while you were waiting for locals to arrive. With any luck, surveillance cameras at you residence will have some good quality views of the thieves. Trust your dealership has the Mojave in a secured area in case the thief checks there for a re-steal.
Again I'm glad you got it back. Retired LEO here as well and thank you for your service.?‍♂

Glad you got it back! How are the key fobs so easy to program. Is there a way to make them more secure?

Sorry brother, One of my old rescue partners had his rubicon stolen and his AirTag had it in a container on the Miami River headed for Haiti in 3 hours. QSL -QTH.

Maybe the thieves didn't have a Samsung phone to be able to find the Samsung Smart tags. Seems the Apple ones can be easily discovered.

Glad you got it recovered. I think you had a "semi-pro" thiefs on your hand as most of the organized crews that do this know to scan for tags. That being said, I still keep one in my JT regardless also.

I highly recommend Ravelco
I live in San Francisco bay area and if my jeep gets stolen chances are that the police will not respond for hours or days
If I locate my jeep and try to recover it I will probably get shot
Ravelco is my best defense

Man what a great story - I mean, not the whole situation but the fact you were able to find it and get it back quick enough.

I'm curious, what kind of place was it sitting at where you saw it? Was it a transfer station of some sort or near a port? Do you think they just grabbed and ran or were they intending to come back to do more damage and sell it?

It amazes me this has become such a big problem - well not that it's a problem but that nobody is really doing anything about it.

How do they scan for tags? I've been thinking of getting a few for a couple things around here.

For the Samsung tags, the "Smart Things" app on a phone has a "Search For Unknown Tags Near You" function. For Apple stuff, I think it is the same or the Apple app will let a person know if latent unassigned tags are around after awhile. This stems from a few years ago when air tags were new and people were using them for stalking reasons on unsuspecting people.

Tile, the original GPS/Tag device, allows you to disable such function so no one is alerted of the Tile. I believe in order to enable it though it involves you uploading some personal information to the company(Driver's License maybe?) to make sure the function doesn't get abused
