Moab & The Mighty 5

Leaving the Indianapolis are on Friday (5/10) for a trip to Utah. I'd estimate that we'll cover almost 4k miles on the trip and visit the Mighty 5 in Utah. We'll spend the first week in Moab playing on the trails and visiting the first two parks (Arches and Canyonlands) then drive further southwest to Brian Head where we'll spend the next week exploring and visiting the last 3 parks (Bryce, Zion, Capital Reef). Will definitely update this thread with pics along the way ?

Good trip; be safe. Been there Done these.. You should go visit TrailMater shop when in MOAB.. Take a list of trails and ask the question .. "which of these can I do and not have to Call YOU". Rory is a cool guy. (If you haven't watched his youtube videos .. great videos of recoveries from MOAB Trails; outstanding scenery.

I don’t think you’ll be there in time, but I’ll be there from Thursday to Sunday. Have a great trip. One of my favorite places.

As long as you're in the neighborhood, not a trail but
consider a day trip to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

I like spending the night at Muley Point on Cedar Mesa. Sunrise is breathtaking.

If you have time, do the Cathedral Valley Loop or Upper Muley Twist trails in Capitol Reef NP.

I would get a kick outta visiting Rory's shop.....have seen a boatload of the recovery vids (and definitely do not want to star in one lol). Dead Horse Point is a must. Last August we did Chicken Corners in a rental Wrangler and got some great pics looking across at Dead Horse Point.

I just love that place. Heading to Moab tonight! Tomorrow is the legendary Pritchett Canyon.

If you are going 70 west from Moab, Black Dragon wash pictographs are a short side trip and an interesting trail through the San Rafael Reef. Who knew the early residents of that area had TV's.

I will definitely check out Matrimony Spring! Seems like a place that would draw us back year after year. My wife and I said our vows way up in Yankee Boy Basin (Ouray, Co) in 2020......the mountains and red rocks keep calling us back year after year ?

Obviously depends on your route selection but I highly recommend Highway 12 through from Torrey through Escalante either to or from Bryce. Don't have any good pics on 12, was raining/snowing on our trip in March. We drove it from Bryce to Green River. (The Green River Holiday Inn is new and the laundry room was free, nice patio in the back)

Probably not on your list but Grosvenor Arch and Cotton Wood canyon road are not to bad a drive. Not technical by any means. Peekaboo slot canyon north of Kanab has easy access through deep sand. After a couple of miles you park and only walk about 50ft and your in the slot canyon.


They are probably a lot less crowded than the big 5.


And take recovery gear, ran into a 2wd van where he should not have been.
