Sounds like you're pretty much settled on this based off the replies.

I've been on the same fence for about 6 months now. Got a GoFastCamper for the JT and took it on some pretty long trips. With my wife, myself and two dogs the room becomes a notable issue. So I considered a PW for slightly better payload, significantly more space for the dogs and in the bed. Yet, that's where the possible upside ended.

For me, I find that once I start to focus on faults it becomes very easy to motivate yourself to do things with the mindset of simply alleviating problems. Its harder to focus heavily on the benefit of our current state with this mindset though, almost all people have a greater negative bias than positive. This just works, it keeps us safe and secure.

So I sat with the idea for months and once the desire to fix the few issues I have subsided I was then able to really weigh the option.

The Bad:
Whatever fuel economy you get now will be 10-20% less in the PW, on stock tires. Go to 37s and that will be into the single digits in some places.

The PW is considerably larger, for snow wheeling that was a concern for me in my old Tundra, which was in fact still smaller than a PW. Trails in the NW in the Tundra were nail biting, the PW would certainly affect my desire to go out and the fun I would have out there. PWs like Raptors are really best suited for SW trails, IMO. The benefit of bed space and interior room would be a challenge on road trips as well.

The Meh:
Seems like the 6.4 and the 3.6 both have lifter issues, so the only major concern I have with the JT would be no less a concern with the PW.

Both have pretty poor resale right now, so the JT would trade in for far less than I would like and the PW would need to be secured with a solid discount to offset any off the lot loss. In my area I have seen quite a few PWs between 1+2yrs old with <30k miles on them go for ~60% of their new MSRP, so resale for them is not impressive.

The Good (for the JT):
The JT is a far more dynamic vehicle, as others have stated mods are one thing. But just taking the top off, the doors, its one of a kind. The PW is sweet, but honestly it feels so much like the other HDs out there when comparing how different the JT feels to a Tacoma or Ranger.

Aftermarket availability results in lower or competitive costs for maintenance parts. The JT will be cheaper to maintain.

No paying the government or financial institution any more money. If your truck is paid off, nice, again youre not paying anyone interest. Your in NC so looks like the Gov will get their sales tax out of the deal. If you pay all in cash great for not dealing with the bank, but big Gov will still have their hand out.

No matter your choice Im sure it will be right for you, which really makes any of our opinions just fodder. Good luck, both are nice options.

I'm actually in Northern California. Taxes are definitely an issue. You make great points. Let me assure you, I have not made up my mind. It would be much easier if I didn't like my Jeep.

I just test drove a sweet PW ($68k) and a Tradesman w/ PW package ($48k). That’s with discounts. The PW is obviously better but it has a massive hood. Higher than the Mojave. The TPW is basically a stripped down PW. I still have a hard time thinking about wheeling in them. They offered $32k for my JT.
Wife says NO! 🤣

Yeah $32k for a trade would be a deal breaker. I realize that aftermarket add-ons don't get you anything but I'd want $38-40k for my Mojave with Smartcap.

I got my gladiator to go hunting, fishing, 4x4ing and shooting. It great for my outdoor everything vehicle, thought about getting a small cargo trailer for overnight stays. If you took out the 4x4ing I would have gone with the PW. I feel the PW is great for overlanding and maybe some skid roads but any semi serious trails not my choice. Hard to make that choice for someone else as we're really not in your shoes. Fuel economy would be the same i don't think you will see a hit on that. I am fortunate to have a Ram 3500 for a second vehicle so I have everything covered. The gladiator is my little go cart that can.

If you look at Fuelly and other mileage reports, you're going to be getting 12 mpg mixed in that thing. That's a HARD PASS from me. I'd get a Cummins powered Ram if going that route, and I hate new diesels.

You don't want a new diesel..... emissions nightmare. My normal mpg on my 6.7 is 16 combined and 19 freeway. When towing I am at 10-12 so not leaps and bounds better. My gladiator i get 11-12 in town and before my mods it was 14-16 with 35in tires.

Yeah, I purchased a 2012 Laramie brand new with the 6.7 Cummins and I hated the emissions junk, so I sold it off a few years later. I kept my '97 12 valve work truck which gets 17.5 mixed. It was returning a full 6 mpg better than the new one when doing around town driving. I'll die with her. Never selling it.

Long live the 12v I wish we could revert back to it lol. My 22' 6.7 is a nightmare looking to lose weight in it soon.

Yeah, I was going to put the 6.7 on a diet but didn't want to run afoul of the "system" and create any headaches for myself. The old 12 valve has a cat and that's it.

No diesel for me. I pull enough heavy shit in my daily job. I have no use nor do I want to maintain a diesel.

It's better than having your truck at the dealership for 11 months and they still don't know if it fixed. Rams remedy we will fix it when it completely breaks lol.

I know few with PWs they are great rigs and enough aftermarket support. If you do easy wheeling and looking for more camping room i would do it.
