Just wanted opinions on running a 37x11.5r17 spare when I have 12.5s on the truck. Reason being is I want to run the stock spare rim cuz I'm not spending a fortune on one you'll never see and will just get eaten up by salt under the truck. I'm assuming it would be fine to run since most vehicles run a donut as a spare. Also the 11.5 would give a little more clearance under the rear of the truck.

Stock spare Mojave rim with Nitto Recon Grappler, 37x11.5r17. Fits fine under the bed with the MC rear track bar. Uncertain about the stock rear TB.

Sounds like a logical plan. I had similar thoughts so I bought a dirt-cheap, off-brand 37"x12.5 Sailun RT tire for $220 on Walmart's website. Only $180 in Giga Tires website. It is narrower than most 12.5 tires and is on the lighter side than most 37s. It is a spare. Just needs to be inexpensive, narrower, same 37" diameter, and good enough to get me home in a pinch. It actually looks like a decent tire: Sailun Terramax R/T 37X12.50R17 D/8PLY Tires

Find a used or almost-bald 37 to toss onto the stock wheel to keep as a spare. The likelihood you'll ever need it is slim, but if you do it'll be the diameter you need to match the others.

Personally, I still have the OEM spare. In the slim chance I'll ever need to use it, I'll just put it on the front axle. If worse comes to worst, I can air down the 37's to the same diameter as the OEM tire. It's really no different than a car with a spacesaver donut spare tire. If I ever come across a cheap 37 to use as a spare I'll snag it, but for now plugs and GlueTread are all I'm likely to ever need if I ever do get a flat.

Nothing wrong with that…in fact, that’s SMART thinking!!

For what its worth…you could go with a 37” x 9.5” pizza cutter (if they exist 🤣) as a spare. The width is irrelevant.

Call around to your local tire shops, offroad shops, and find a USED one……

For what it's worth.... I run all 5 the same and bought a matching rim so that I can do 5 tire rotations.

Thought of that but I've never done a 5 tire rotation up to this point. Also I have free oil changes and tire rotations from my dealer and I'm pretty sure they'll tell me to go to hell if I tell them they gotta rotate the spare too lol

Agreed. My wife's JL, they would not consistently rotate that spare and we ended up with 4 worn tires and a nearly new spare. Sucked when it came to buying new tires, we ended up getting 5 and tossing that spare.

I just ordered the 37x11.5. I'm just going to look at it as I'll only have to buy 4 37s when the time comes instead of 5.

I was going to do 5 tire rotation, but decided against it on the Gladiator. I didn't want to pay for them to change the wheel each time or I didn't want to buy a new matching wheel. I get zero salt here in the desert. I was worried about the rotting of the tire in the heat, but it never will see the sun like on the Wrangler so it will last longer. I will coat the tire with some 303 Protectant to protect it somewhat. More than likely I will never need it, but I will always carry a matching spare.

Well the place I ordered the tire from cancelled because of no stock. Be nice if they actually had that in their site.....idiots. I've looked around and up here in Canada nobody has the 11.5 in stock and no idea on when they will be back in stock so now I've just gone and ordered the 12.5 llto match my other 4. Still putting it on the stock Gladiator spare rim though. Good idea with giving it an oil spray. I will do that.
