Sage advice, indeed. Although, it was Shadow who had that intake mishap.

I always stuff any exposed engine parts with a rag. Heck, I even stuff a rag down my home’s drain pipes when I do plumbing work. I am a firm believer in Murphy’s Law.
I broke my own rule....... normally I tape off open ports. I got in a hurry that day and it cost me over an hour.

I had one of the carburetors off my Javelin to modify the throttle and transmission linkage. I had to take the rear carb nuts off the front carb. Dropped that @#$% nut into the intake and it went down into the intake port.
I was lucky- I attached part of a rare earth magnet to a thin wire and got it fished out. Had that nut landed wrong and that intake valve been full open, who knows - but I don't think this cam has enough lift to have allowed it. It was sure scary for a while, though.
I've pulled a head to find stuff I've dropped. A couple of intakes. It can really fuck up a pay check. Spent a lot of time under vehicles with a long air gun blowing up through the engine compartment to dislodge shit I've dropped. I have a tractor in my back yard that I knocked a washer off of the injector pump down into the timing case that I'm trying to force myself into splitting so I can fix it to use the loader.

Back to the OP' s topic. I've had my Redline struts for a month or so. One thing I hate worse than hunting for dropped shit is hood prop rods! Of course, these cheepo's had to come out a month late!

Installed and works perfectly. Very easy install, so if it breaks after a few years, it won't be a problem to remove. Oh by the way, they're not on sale anymore, it's back up to 75.99. Glad I bought 2!!

Yes, the Redline Tuning struts do have that quick (and easy) release, and it's handy when doing things like installing wiring harnesses and relays and control boxes for snow plows LOL

I'd certainly not want struts that didn't have that feature
These do.

Yeah, they copied every single aspect of the Redline Tuning struts. At least in the design.
I can see the fabrication methods of the brackets are somewhat different - But the design is the same.

After installing. I think the struts are too strong for the lighter hood.

I’m guessing they may be using one strut spec for all of their kits.

My thoughts exactly.

I contacted Redline Tuning directly when I traded trucks and bought the Mojave struts by themselves without the hardware and saved a bit of money.
I now have an extra pair of struts (cylinders) without the hardware - they'll work on everything except 392 and Mojave hoods.
The nice thing about the struts matched to the hood weight - the hood goes up nice and smooth, not too fast at all, smoothly settles at the open position.
My Mojave hood opens at about the same rate as the hood on my Overland did, and my wife's Rubicon JLU does.

I've actually got a Rival set in my garage if anyone is interested. I'll let it go for 40.00 , I purchased it from Extreme Terrain and it was open from shipping. I contacted them and they sent me a new one, Rival replaced the part that was missing. It is complete now. I'm in Ohio.

I do not have that much play in my Mojave hood when it is latched. Once my struts come in I will take note if I see any deviation.

How will the struts, pushing up over half-way back on the sides of the hood, cause a gap up front?
it's the latches that control that. The struts don't push up on the middle.

One can tell if the struts are overkill by how FAST the hood opens.

Been through this on a lot of cars that use struts on the rear hatch or other areas.
Really hard to see something on the edges causing the front to be higher.

The Amazon ARANA SG229011 JL/JT kits and are 👉 down to $50 set, 👈 not quite the $40 of recent weeks , but close...

The Amazon ARANA hood struts for 2018-2014 JL and later JTs (SG229011) have the quick release that Gvsukids mentioned.

Checked on availability of spare gas struts from ARANA for spares (since gas struts aren't forever regardless of brand) but ARANA doesn't sell them separately from their kits.

The typical gas strut life is 3-5 years with low use, however we have seen 18-20 years on our vehicles and RVs with low use.

When gas strut cylinder replacement time comes, numerous gas strut vendors/manufacturers have gas strut calculators on their websites that will advise of proper replacements in their stock.

You will need hood weight, strut extended length, strut compressed length, and cylinder/rod end type fittings (ball socket size) to determine the correct replacement strut for you.
