I used to add lead substitute additive to my gasoline tank in the 390. Ran valvoline oil.
It my V-Twin bike I use Amsoil V-Twin which has around 1500 ppm ( not sure the measurement designation) of zddp as it incorporates a flat tappet design and does a great job in it. Of course its 20W-50 oil.
I would be curious to know the additive package in the signature I use in this 3.6L.
That new technology is that the hybrid ash tech I was reading about ?
They say it offensive metal to metal contact without the use of zddp doing as good or better job especially in engines without flat tappets.
I used a nozzle adapter and put leaded in my cars until it fully disappeared. Then later I realized - it wasn't needed for the AMC engines- higher nickel content and there was never any issue with the valve seats in their engines.
And once people stuck in the 1970s start talking about how necessary really high levels of ZDDP are even in modern engines, I walk away from that conversation.
To this day you can't get the classic car people to stop listening to disco and move into the current century.

I've had about 13 3.6's, if I'm counting right, never had any trouble with any of them, although I never had high mileage on them, except for the 2015 and 2018 JKU's we bought our daughters for graduation. they both have over 50k miles. One has been very poorly maintained, but they both run much, much quieter than both our 2023 Gladiators. I don't know what Jeep changed on the engine, but the JKU's run nearly silent, the Gladiators sound like they're swapping holes.

P.S. For Jeep to have perfected it by this generation, they would have had to give a shit it was defective in the first place.
Gladiator uses a beefier exhaust and from what I can tell, a small resonator to give the 3.6 that truck growl.

Can't believe he (Banned who truly is) was comparing a JK to a JT engine - very different engines. Of course one isn't going to be as quiet, and the JK was a different animal in other ways. When comparing apples to apples, at least use the same variety of apple!

I've driven every generation of Tacoma and had a 5th generation 4R. Also familiar with the NA Colorado from 2 generations ago and had a NA Ranger as well.

The 3.6 Pentastar is my favorite NA 6cyl.

Torque is available sooner than any of the Toyotas, also seems less peaky and limited than the 3rd gen Taco. The 4.0 in the Toyotas were short a couple gears so they sucked IMO.

I've got no complaints, but im also not expecting it to be anything more than it actually is, so im quite happy with it. Bonus is that it actually sounds decent. I swear every Toyota sounds the same, I can call them out before I see them.

So far at 30k without any issues. Cannot say that for my Tacomas.

I drove my brother´s ZR2 Bison again yesterday. Verdict...I would not trade engines/drive train. The ZR2 turbo 4 is very powerful...the torque is huge. But it sounds like a Chevy Cavalier. Yuck. Around town driving and even in acceleration, I don´t think it has anything on my Gladiator, with both trucks being on 35´s. The 4.10 gear ratio really helps the JT. I can´t remember what it is in the Bison, but it is very tall. Something like 3.3??. They did not change the gearing from the ZR2 with 33´s. But the 3.6 sounds so much better.

I would bet that the turbo 4 in that Bison would leap to the front while towing a heavy load, though. And at high altitude. But for daily driving, even spirited driving, the 3.6 has it covered. And I can get 21mpg highway all day long. His best so far is 16. This 3.6 doesn´t get enough credit for its efficiency when moving such a heavy truck around. The Rubicon is just about as heavy as a Chevy 1/2 ton and has the aerodynamics of a barn door. Yet I still see 21mpg. It´s really amazing. The worst I have seen is 15.9 in stop/go city driving.

And the 3.6 is silky smooth and quiet compared to that powerhouse 4, too.

I love Granny Smith apples for eating. Those are my pick for a snack apple.
We have what I believe is a yellow delicious (lost the tag after buying the tree years ago and forgot what it was) that makes fantastic pies and apple sauce. I tend to pick them just at the onset of ripe so maybe a few are still just a tad tart.
I planted another this spring and it was large enough it might bear a few apples if the branches can support them.

Oh, wait - what was the topic again?

Oh, yeah.......
My son drove my JT up to Clear Lake for a get-together with his mother's side of his family (my ex). His uncles, who I still get along great with) are really curious about any newer vehicle. Scott has always been a car or truck person, Dave was like me - make that Duster go as fast as it can, did his own AC addition using junkyard parts (it looked factory) and more. He also drove his car up and down some stairs at ISU way back when.
Luke (my son) told me that they were all over my JT - asking about this or that, checking things out under the hood, Dave was really interested in the transfer case options, but both were impressed with that tiny little engine under the hood, sound and power it had in that Jeep.

🖐 This guy would if it meant better reliability.
I vividly remember telling myself that the the 3.6 PUG was redesigned to eliminate the well known valve train issues the first gen 3.6 had........... (I know......that 'hindsight 20/20' thing.......)

My experiences with the Gen1:
2013 JK - 6 followers replaced @62K (prior to my ownership)
Remaining followers replaced @84K (still under 100K warranty)
Jeep still running strong with zero noises, oil consumption at 161K miles
2018 JK - From new - sold at 60K miles - zero signs of VT failure

My experiences with the PUG have been positive so far:
2020 WK - From new - sold at 60K miles - zero signs of VT failure
2023 JL - From new - sold at 50K miles - zero signs of VT failure

[Purely based on personal experiences and observations at engine start-up (not because 'the internet says') none of these engines ran on the OEM oil spec. / unpopular opinion.]

So as I was saying while on the way to buy apples I noticed how every 3.6 trees had 36 apples. And then I was reminded of the fact that my Jeep had a 3.6L and I then recalled how this is probably a life changing event.

NEVER shout "hey, look, a squirrel" or "hey, look at that cat!" to a guy with severe ADHD.
We'll cross 15 different topics in the course of 30 minutes and stop at the bakery for a dozen donuts in the process.

Show me a jeep owner that doesn't suffer from severe ADHD or obsessive compulsive disorder and I'll show you a flying elephant 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

All the mid sized truck engines lack low end.

They all require more revs than what I'm used to wheeling or towing with.

Obviously, I could have chosen anything, they all cost the same, and I chose this. It wasn't for the engine lol. None of them would have been for the engine.

I change my oil every 10k, not a mile sooner, tow what I want, go where I want, and don't lose any sleep at night about what could be.

I wish it had 305HP like in the RAM 1500 version. Obviously it's just tuning since we have the same intake manifold, heads and cams as the RAM 1500.
