My JK Sport had black plastic fenders that faded (in the Houston heat) within 12 months of ownership -- I then "Line-X"ed them with body-colored material, and they've lasted for over 7 years now...my front and rear stock bumper covers have faded as well, but I don't care about them as much

I tried every suggestion to "bring back" the black for fenders/bumpers, but nothing worked or lasted -- it looks terrible when it fades and never gets better...

That's why I wish the Sport / Sport S would have the $495 option to add body-colored fender flares

This is true. You get used to dark grey fenders I suppose, but black they ain't.

Body color for me, scratches be damned.

Steffen707 // 5JeepsAZ -- take a look at Blondie's picture in my avatar/Garage...

That was the day I "DIY-painted" my fender flares with tintable MonstaLiner...I think I used a full gallon on all 4 fender flares.

OHHH, I thought you painted it black, not a matching color. If I get a Gladiator, I might do the same, but in black.

Are your fenders rough like bedliner or smooth like factory color matched flares would be?

When I get a Gladiator I'm definitely getting body color flares. Wasn't a huge fan of them on the JK but with the JL design and black accent strip it looks good. Still undecided if I'll go color matched top or not though.

dano That is Nice. Got me thinking. About the back and sides of the top. A black roof, white all the way down. How long it take you? You an expert with the paint gun?

MonstaLiner is a type of rough bedliner that comes in black, but can be cheaply tinted to color match — that is what I did for my Sahara Tan...

I first removed all flares, sanded them down some and then rolled on the coating and then reinstalled (everything in one day)

My 2016 JKU fender flares still look fine. I do park in a garage, but it's outside all day long at work.

I'll probably go black fenders, ceramic coat em, and if they look crappy years from now then I'll bedliner them.
