I am getting a gas Rubicon Gladiator, and coming from my SRT GC and Cummins Ram, I think I am going to miss the torque each one has. I do have a GC w/ the 3.6 and 8 speed, and it does well unloaded, but fell flat on its face when towing 2500 lbs in the WV mountains.

I am contemplating a turbo or sc, vs an engine swap, but more interested in the drivetrain in the Rubicon's gas vs diesel. The diesel version has components rated for at least 442 ft-lbs of torque.

Are the auto transmissions the same part #, rated for the same torque as the diesel?
Are the Rubicon transfer cases the same part #, rated for the same torque as the diesel?
Are the driveshafts and axles the same part #, rated for the same torque as the diesel?

If the answers are Yes, is it safe to say that there is no weak link in the drive train (to 442 ft-lbs)? Is there something that I am not considering here? If the answer is No, would swapping drivelines from a diesel Gladiator to a gasser be that simple (although expensive)?

As far as I know the 8 speed ZF transmission is the same in the JT as the Ecodiesel.

May be similar but not same.... go to 2018 GC builder or 2018 Ram builder and the trans that goes with the 3.0 ecoD has a different sales code.....I do not know what the difference is though

EPTJ... the xfer case and axles should remain the same

AHA....the power of the Google machine.

8HP45 or 50 for 3.6L vs 8HP70 for Ecodiesel (and V8 engines) so trans changes for Torque output

Thanks, RedTRex, I didn't think to check out the GC and Ram diesel builder page. It would be nice if you could buy a kit to upgrade the auto to a 8HP70. I'll have to look into that, I'm sure I am not the first one to look into beefing up the 8HP45.

I believe these are the tq limits for the 8HP45

1st 440nm
2nd 440nm
3rd 380nm
4th 440nm
5th 440nm
6th 380nm (350nm at higher transmission fluid temp)
7th 550nm
8th 440nm

so 3rd and 6th are the "weak" points

What sounds great amigo?
Nothing to compare to except my F 350s x 5 and each one was about $9k option, well know it won't be that high. Also noted the Block for the engine is made out of used charcoal briquets just like the FORD block...

LOL.
So in the Grand Cherokee and RAM the EcoD was a $4K and $4.5k respectively option and auto trans was included. With the new diesel price war (think Ford is the first with small diesel as a no cost option) we shall see how Chevy and Ram compete. As for Jeep, who knows as they charge us a bundle for the trans
