FWIW, I downloaded what I think are the instructions for your steps out of curiosity. It would seem to me your first pic indicates you tapped a purple / white wire rather than violet / gray in the white connector bundle. As others have stated, colors can be challenging. The photos are good but colors can be off sometimes.

the labeling for the door sensing wires would indicate these are simple voltage sense circuits, one wire per door. This is a best guess due to single-ended / 1-wire digital communications are not a sound practice in this rather exposed mobile application. The AMP module should not impact those 4 circuits, just monitor them door open/closed states.

I am also not a fan of the posi-locks due to the damage they cause to the wires. I would much prefer to see AMP build a harness / adaptor that leaves the factory wiring alone. Simply unplug the connector, insert adaptor and reconnect. The adaptor would have the wires needed neatly split off.

I have yet to find a service manual or online resource for the JT. So this is all best-guess and I don’t have diagrams to see what other circuits are in the bundles to suggest what other circuits in that bundle should be checked.

‘Good luck. I hope you stumble across a bad fuse, otherwise this may require a tow into service.
Very well said - and very helpful even to others looking in, IMO. (this is one that should have the option for two likes)

Smart folks know their limits.
I used to spray cars, too - but decided let the pro paint the car I last had painted. I did all the prep and body work but even wonder how wise that was with the changes in new materials and technology. Next one goes to a pro.
If you don't care for electric work then paying to have it done may have been cheaper in the long run!

Had it towed this morning and they have it fixed already. Apparently the purple wire I originally tapped into needed repaired (hence why not to use the posi taps I now know). All is good now.

Had the directions for the product been more clear about exactly which wires to tap into for each harness this wouldn’t even have been an issue. I understand knowing my limits, But I thrive on learning how to do things so I know for the future. This truly wasn’t a difficult install just poor directions.

Thank you for the assistance.

Really glad you got it fixed already and thanks for letting us know the outcome.

No regrets, this is life. This cost you some inconvenience and money, but you did learn things. My father always said that anyone that hasn’t effed up ain’t never done anything

I do wonder what that damaged wire does...

‘Enjoy those steps!

They are perfect, exactly the height I was looking for.

I can't find a wiring diagram anywhere for those connectors but apparently it's pretty effin important haha.

Bad directions don't help. We hired out a bathroom remodel and I was appalled by the directions - or so they called them, for parts of the shower enclosure and how they called it xx inches when the panel was 3" shy of that measurement. Poor guying doing the work. One part I read the directions and figured out and showed him - they had them in the wrong ORDER! You had to look down about 3/4 of the way, do a couple of steps and then go back up, then down again. What a mess.
Kudos for the try and turning it around into a learning experience!
Everyone here, regardless, had to start somewhere. Everyone was at one time at step 1, don't let 'em fool ya.

I’m having the same issue! Currently have steps installed without any wiring. I wasn’t confident enough to tap into any wires. Any finished photos would be much appreciated.

When I installed AMP steps on my 2016 Ram Power Wagon they came with a whip that was a plug in on the OBD2 port, there was no splicing required. I wonder why they can't do that for the JT?

You wouldn't be able to move the steps by hand.. I did see a video on you tube for your problem, they just reversed the polarity at the motor.. They just switched the white and orange wires
