The value is there, imagine what the dealer is going to list it for resale.
Exactly. I know they don’t give you anything for mods, but they will definitely use that to their advantage when reselling.

What your being offered doesn't sound like a terrible stretch. Would you pay anywhere near sticker for a used car, even if it only had 8k on it? Doubt it. It's only worth what people will pay.

It has always seemed odd to me how we tend to justify pricier vehicles because they "hold their value". I'm no economist, but I don't view this jeep an "investment" with a market that can crash or has up's and downs. People use this same logic to justify not driving their cars to keep the mileage low, to somehow preserve some notion of higher resale.

Depreciating assets to some, to me it's just a truck that I intend to drive the piss out of.

Around here, new car dealers that take in customer lifted vehicles on trade, send them straight to auction or consign them to secondary dealer lots. They do not want to deal with warranty concerns after the fact of backing someone else's aftermarket lift. Looks like you got a auction price for the trade in.

That was my issue. I owed $11k or so on my jku they gave me $21k give or take a little.
So that would have left you $10k trade value against the JT, that was $41k and you financed $41k.

If TTL was $3k that still means $7k went somewhere.

Did you buy an extended warranty for an ungodly amount?

Did they draw a cross on the paper to make a 4 square?
Were your numbers close to this?
$46,900 MSRP
<21,000> Trade
25,900 Diff
+ 1554 Tax (guessing 6%)
+ 1000 Title/Lic/MBSF*
+ 1495 Dealer Fee (cause Florida Dealers suck)
$29,949 sub
+11,000 trade payoff
$40,949 JPs four-square guess

*MBSF= Miscellaneous Bull Shit Fees

I agree 38/42 is fair, but the other does matter because it has value. If his trade was worth $15k and he still financed $41k there is a whole bunch of money that vaporized along the way.
That’s not really relevant when discussing JT resale value tho, IMO. That’s a personal financial misadventure.

there is only, what, 600ish pounds more towing on a sport equipped right vs Rubicon. but what you get on Rubicon is rubi is 7000 pounds and better to have, and resale is Rubicon better. items you add is on you, dealership won't add much value to that because upgrades are individual preferred

Payload is hundreds better with max tow and frankly, the few hundred pounds plus the extra pay load (you have to count tongue weight as payload) for some the max tow makes a lot more sense.

If buying something for resale value or investment, a vehicle is a mistake unless you hold it for many years and get lucky.
Ask those selling professionally restored Shelbys and other such things on auction for a big loss.

Sounds like you got screwed. If you had 10k in trade-in, sounds like you paid actually msrp plus a bunch of bogus fees.... those numbers just don’t add up. I’d like to see the papers you signed.

Your msrp was like 47, plus fees and taxes would be like 51, subtract 10k your at 41.

looks like you got screwed and our msrp, sorry man.

When you buy/sell/trade no one gives a hoot what you owe on a trade, and if you go to trade that one, no one cares what you owe on it - that's your debt, you can't factor that in and expect things to be or go better.
You paid what's at the top of the paper plus the fees, not what's at the bottom taking your trade, what you owe and all that into account.
If the vehicle was 55K, you had a trade that was worth 15 and you owed 5, that doesn't mean you paid less than 55K - you paid in cash and value so 55 is what you paid.
You have to get past the financing and trade stuff. What they charged you for the vehicle and fees is what you paid.
Not vehicle plus fees minus trade, etc.

also it drives me crazy that people talk about invoice and below invoice pricing... the ONLY way you can compare prices equally is give an out the door price, minus taxes. Taxes vary state to state. Fees vary all over place. Trade in should not even be part of the discussion when talking about price.

It’s all numbers game with dealers. Only thing that matters is out the door minus taxes. Only way you can compare apples to apples with pricing. Trade in is the only thing that adds or takes away from out the door pricing (minus taxes) bottom line and shouldn’t even be discussed when talking about how much you paid for a vehicle.

I suspect that it is going to be had to judge what the value will be for these. This is still the first year and the market hasn't been established. Of course a dealer is going to low ball since they have no way of knowing what they will get out of it. The Wrangler line has been on the market for years and years and has a proven record for retaining value. I would bet if you talk to anyone that traded a JL towards a JT they got hosed. Like was said above, driving off the lot you will see the biggest hit to value. It will level out as the time goes by. JKs are holding value since the JL and JT has just become too expensive. so anybody that wants in to the Jeep club has little choice if they can't pony up for a new one. I feel bad for those that jumped in on a JT and decided it wasn't for them. I love mine but I have had Jeeps and Trucks. It seems that there are a lot of people that are truck people that never had a Jeep or Jeep people that never had a truck. I think the idea of the JT got the best of them and now not so much.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around why you bought it in the first place and already trading it in for something bigger. Certainly you had to know the size of it when you bought it. Not trying to be a butthead.but that seems to be a bad move on your part buying a new vehicle in the market, dumping a bunch of money into it and then thinking they would give it back to you after a few months of test driving.
