I took the vehicle in to the dealer shop and they ran all sorts of tests to come to the conclusion that the transmission was "operating as designed". I took my case to the general manager of the dealership and long story short, got the same answer. The major response by them was that Jeep had no history of complaints and therefore had no repair in place nor any interest of finding one if there was only a few complaints. I would ask those that are having this same "clunk" problem to visit their dealership and get it on record as a problem. I had already filed a complaint with Jeep and got a case number, but it was closed based on the dealer findings.
Hello L79lover,
We rely on our dealers to be the eyes and ears in the field. We cannot promise a change of outcome but if you are interested in getting a second opinion from our end, please reach out to us privately with your case # and we would be happy to take a look for you.

I will be taking mine in next week to get looked at. Mine is bad enough now that it does it almost everytime after being in park and it started clunking while the transmission downshifts

For those of you that hear a clunk when going from park to reverse, do you use your parking break?

This happened a few times in my JL, usually only while in an incline, and always when I forgot to set the parking break. Otherwise the weight of the car is held in place by the transmission which could cause a clunk when shifting.

No parking brake is used unless on an incline. My garage is relatively level so I dont think it would be too much help and I feel little I shouldn't have to set the parking brake everytime.

This is what mine sounds like. To be fair the garage door is closed and the window open so there was more echo than normal But you get the idea.

That sounds pretty bad. Never heard an automatic shift so hard when still. Any updates?

I had to reschedule my appointment due to the holidays mine is going in a couple weeks. I figure to the more it goes on the more consistent it's becoming hopefully to make it easier to narrow down the issue.

I get that same clunk going into reverse or drive. Seems to be after it's been sitting for a while. But only happens the first shift from Park, if I try to replicate right after it happens it won't be as harsh.

Well dealer had mine for a day and.... its operating as normal...ugh they did add a bit of fluid and updated the programming so maybe I'll luck out and that's all. Unfortunately I'm not very optimistic.

I have this as well. But only in 4-Low and only when switching between Drive and Reverse. And, @JeepCares I brought this to the attention of my dealer but they said it was "Normal Operation".
