The message I got is similar:

"The manual transmission is currently closed for order. I do not have an ETA for when ordering will be open again".

Only when it drops below torque converter take up speed meaning there's no impact on the rear wheels. It won't let you come to a complete stop in 5th and attempt to start off in that gear, I believe the highest gear you can take off in is 4th but I have no idea why you'd want to do that. In essence it stops you from doing something stupid.
I didn't ask about or suggest starting out in too high a gear. I was only talking about coasting. It is that uncommanded downshifting when coasting (particularly downhill,) that gets my goat. Just no logic behind it.

There is a lot to love about the FCA 8-speed. I've said in other posts that it's the best automatic I'd ever driven, and I've rented many, many different cars in my travels. It's what sold me on the Ram over the F150, Silverado and Tundra. I drove it for 6 years, realized I missed a manual and definitely already know I prefer this 6-speed. When folks come over to a thread full of manual enthusiasts (and they are welcome to do so,) to claim the manual is rubbish, I just want to set things straight. If you aren't enthused to a drive a manual, you're probably not going to like any manual (... but you just might like this one.) If you are a manual "Fanboi" (i.e. the target audience of this thread,) there's a ton to like about this one.

It's clear to me that the official corporate responses will be meaningless. Better glean what little info we can by have dealers call their ordering reps. Even so, not much info coming out of Jeep. I have resigned myself to just chilling for a while.

I waited months to get my Jeep in the color I wanted and have not regretted it. If the manual had not been available when I finally got to order it would have sucked but I would have waited for that too.

As good as the automatic is, I just wouldn't buy an automatic Jeep. When I almost bought a JK a few years before it was going to be a manual, and that transmission sucked. So I guess I am a manual fanboi.

The NSG370 in my ‘15 JKU sucked so badly that my JT is an auto

Just curious, can you elaborate on what you didn't like? I'm assuming that's what I had in my '14 JK and enjoyed it.

Well, I am a manual fan, I have 3 manual cars. I didn't jump in until I saw blatant misinformation. Unfortunately, the manual they chose for the JT is rubbish as it gives up a lot of capability. 4500lbs towing in 2020 for any pickup is abysmal. It's also objectively worse off road - the autos get off road speed control meaning they can crawl at a set speed without touching anything, no stalling possible, no touching the gas or brake. Lot of misinformation in here, not sure if it's people trying to justify the manual by inventing issues with the auto or just ignorance, but either way I guess it doesn't matter availability wise.

Coming from the guy claiming the auto has the better crawl ratio ...

One of the benefits of a torque converter is torque multiplication below stall speed instead of torque loss with the clutch, but yes the manual does have an absolute better crawl ratio.

Yes, of course the torque converter has its merits and delivers more torque by slipping and allowing higher revs for your given crawl. Which can be accomplished by slipping the clutch, but not something I would do (that is doing something stupid, as you'd put it.)

Rather, I have found the torque sufficient to climb a pretty rugged ~20% grade, even in 2nd gear, at idle, without coming close to stalling. That is feet flat on the floor. I don't understand how you can call that gearing "rubbish???" Revving to 1600 (2X idle) in 1st gives considerable more torque and speed is still less than 2 MPH.

It began popping out of first gear necessitating replacement at 33K. Not an uncommon problem

Someone posted an FCA safety recall advanced communication document dated 3/4/2020 regarding JL and JT vehicles with manual transmissions in the wrangler forum:

https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...manual-transmission.46900/page-6#post-1044869

Doesn't line up with the "shortage of supply" speculation some people have been posting, but is an interesting read and potentially the smoking gun behind the halt in MT orders.
