I installed the RR Eclipse Sun Shade a couple days ago. I couldn’t find much info here regarding how it functions with the Freedom Panels, so I thought I’d share my impressions.
It seems well made. The mesh is heavy duty and definitely does a good job of blocking the sun. All the stitching is where it should be and nothing seemed to pop or give when I tightened it all up.
The shade was really easy to install and pulled very tight. I loosened the forward most bolts on the hard top to allow the rear corners of the shade to pull through more easily and then snugged them back down. The shade does not interfere with the hard top mounting or sealing points.
As you can see from the photos, the holes at the front of the shade allow the pull down levers for the Freedom Panels to operated without issue. The shade does not have to be manipulated in any way for the panels to slide on. Thus, it stays nice and tight.
As for the other levers, I opted for the shade without the holes to operate them. As a result, the shade covers the horizontal levers on the panels. However, I find it very easy to press the levers into the open or closed position through the mesh. Doing so has not caused the shade to loosen or get slack at any point. Again, the mesh is heavy duty.
On the road, the shade stays nice and tight. With any of the windows down or rear window open, it’s quiet even at highway speeds. With windows up or rear window closed, it whistles as the air passes over the mesh.
I hope this info is useful for anybody on the fence between this shade or the J-Tops. I just couldn’t see spending $100 more if this one functions nearly as well.
