then explain why my replacement (inserted by a human at the dealer) is leaking again.
I don’t have to explain anything.
1. I offered a possibility for the leaks.
2. Take that possibility or leave it, I don’t give a shit.
3. Again the realm of possibility is the person installing the new axle buggered the job.
4. If someone offers an opinion, no explanation is required - it is just an opinion - which are like assholes, everyone has one.
Thanks for your input.

He’s just frustrated by his recurring leak. Everything is O-K here…maybe.

I did find the sales data/PR sheet for the rear vent. Looks designed exactly this way for a reason.

https://www.gore.com/news-events/pr...ents-protect-powertrain-components-from-harsh
This was discussed in another thread last year. These are membrane vents for a reason. Gone are the days of your old check valve (tube with a cap) on vehicles like a Jeep. The expectation is that you'll be in sand, dust, mud, water, etc. Old style vents allowed dust to get in, even water, humidity.
Anyone seen a differential after a few years in a humid climate? Cooling and heating of the air, humidity, you get rust inside. Open vents, (meaning those with simple check valves) let humidity and fine dust in.
These are designed to prevent any moisture or dust at all. Air only. It's a membrane.

These differentials should not get hot enough fast enough to need an open pipe to breath. They get hot - but it doesn't happen in 2 minutes.
Think about the small amount of air that would need to move out as these heat up, even towing, they don't get to 150 degrees in 2 minutes - plenty of time for air to vent out through that sort of device.
Unless this sort of vent is actually faulty or plugged - it should be fine. These aren't new tech.

Thanks. Seems like a bad idea to modify this vent and while it may be a short term bandaid it would seem to cause long term issues. Oddly enough my drip has really slowed down. Not worried about fluid level while I wait on the axle given the small amount that comes out.

Closing in on 2,000mi since the repair and I'm not seeing any more drips on the wheel, which is encouraging.

Going on four weeks since the local dealer diagnosed and ordered a new axle. They topped off my diff and said it was okay to drive. If they had told me driving it would void my warranty, I’d be in the process of filing a lemon case. Love my Nacho and hoping that axle gets here soon… my tire doesn’t like gear oil.
Sorry for my delay here. If you are still in need of assistance, we are happy to dig in further. Please send a private message with up to date details.

Was your leaking real bad? Mine was leaking at 300 miles to the point I'd get a small pool of gear oil in the wheel when it was parked. I wasn't able to get it into the busy dealership until around 1k miles at which point the leak was a small seepage that no longer pooled up. They checked the fluid and ordered the axle (still backordered) and allowed me to keep it. It almost seems likes its not leaking at all anymore (close to 2k miles now). The fluid is still full and I no longer get pools of oil in the rim. I think it was overfilled from the factory.

Hey Kate, thanks for looking out. I am still waiting on the backordered axle to come in so the dealer can replace it. I will give them the chance first.
Thank you, Axel

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!
So on Monday, I called Stellantis Case Management the Jeep Chrysler Case Management. She told me that the part was coming in today. Well, I called the dealership and said that they got the part in. They just need to get it and install it. It would be a couple of more days. I'm like oh ok I guess. Well, the dealership calls me back in 1.5 hrs saying that the jeep is ready. They changed the shaft. He said it had to do with loose bearings. I am not a mechanic so Idk know what that means. Anywho I go to the dealership and they give me paperwork saying that the shaft was changed and explained the loose bearings issue. I don't trust dealerships, but should I worry that they didn't change anything and just typed it up, or did they really change it? Thanks
