Not a good combo. My youngest is learning and this Jeep platform is not the best. Wanders, touchy gas pedal in the 2.0, vague steering in the JT, always wanting to take her hand off the wheel to wave at other jeep ?. Not very good for student drivers. Oh, and limited places to stick the magnetic signs.

My 2 young drivers learned on a JK and a JT. Both had no issues and that translated into confidence when we go off road as well. Heck their automatics with all the power options in the world. I learned on a 5 speed pickup truck and Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham talk about 2 different driving experiences. Im a better driver today because I learned to drive whatever was available.

All my family I've taught to drive I've always used vehicles that were big and imposing. They learn better that way it shows them they can master anything that seems impossible for them. They have all enjoyed learning this way even though they were scared. I taught my son to drive a stick on a 95 YJ that needed alot to make it a good driver.

I taught my daughter (she's 46 now) to drive, on and off road, in an Isuzu Trooper 4X4 MT. She can now drive everything and taught her kids to drive an MT. I learned in the early 60s in my mother's Corvair Monza (remember them) stick. So for those youngsters an MT isn't a Millennial or Gen Z deterrent.

I’m glad sheā€˜s the last of 3. I feel more anxious than the other 2 but I think it’s cause it’s hard for her to keep the Jeep straight. It’s like it’s always wanting to head off road.

The Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham! That was my first car. Lux to the max. Had a factory CBRadio/ stereo!

I must have a completely different jeep experience than most people. My mojave is planted and direct. I would describe it as neither wandery nor vague. Its like night and day to the last jeep (2 door jk) i drove. I can let go of the wheel and it stays pointed if the road isn't too heavily crowned.

I remember reading in the "manual transmission regret" thread someone described the throws as vague and rubbery and I couldn't help but think "what vehicle are you driving?" because I consider the throws on the jt very directed and precise, even if a touch longer than I'd prefer.

It's not the magic carpet ride my K900 had, but my jeep feels great on road overall.

My youngest drives a 2014 Prius c (the absolute most underpowered and small) he looks like grape ape in there as he is a football lineman but you know what he won’t do? Drag race or drive my gladiator unless I am present;)

Maybe she prefers that to pavement.

I had my kiddo learn in my JT. He hated it due to the ā€œkeep it under controlā€ factor plus he’s 6 foot tall and hits his head on the ā€œsound barā€.
Just picked him up a non turbo Impreza… he freaking loves it. At least he knows to keep thing under control… I hope lol

I think I would have gotten into a lot less trouble early on if my first vehicle was a Jeep. Big time lead-foot early on.

Is he all torso? I’m 6’3ā€ and change and I’ve got a bunch of headroom.

There’s a lot that I like about my JTR, but the headroom is what tilted me in this direction initially.
