If you put a 2x4 in slot #1, a 2x6 in slot 2, and put the tailgate in the middle position using the clip (#5) it should provide a flat surface and prevent that issue. Seems like a lot of work but If you just have your precut 2x4 and 2x6 ready for your daily trip to pick up plywood you should be fine.

So you go to the dealer to pickup your gladiator with something to cut wood (e.g. a small battery powered circular saw). You then proceed to Home Depot (or your hardware store of choice), you buy a 2x4 and a 2x6, cut to size, and then purchase all the plywood you can!!!

By following these steps you carry the least with you to the dealership... you could show up to the dealership with a 2x4 and 2x6, but they might think you're weird...

You could plan on driving straight to Home Depot, have them cut the 2x4 & 2x6 for you, and then proceed to purchase all the plywood you can fit. You'll have to throw the scrap 2x4 & 2x6 in the back seat though. Won't be enough room in the bed with all that plywood...
