Two things I'm curious about:

If you upgrade to 35" All Terrain tires on a Rubicon, can you still use factory wheels, and is any re-gearing required? I know you don't need the lift kit for the 35s, right?

There doesn't appear to be a factory option for running boards for the Rubicon, nor did I see anything in the Mopar parts catalog specific to Gladiator. Yet, in several photos, I've seen running boards. Can I assume that these are bolt-on and thus easily removed for off roading? Seems like they sit below the rock rails, thus could be damaged, or is that not the case? Anybody with experience with the JL in terms of leaving the running boards in place while off roading? Even without 35s, seems like it would be tough for kids to climb in and out of without some sort of running board or side step, etc.

I looked at 2 Rubicons yesterday. They had just pulled into town. When looking at the front end I could not help but notice that it looked like the rock rails seemed to go into the wheel area just a tad. This may not be a problem or an issue at all, may be just my wild imagination running amuck. But I couldn’t help but wonder if it could be a problem if someone puts much larger tires and wheels on the truck and then heads out to the Rubicon trails.

The white one that the dealer in Georgia lifted and put 37's on rubbed on that rail.
They said they pulled the plastic cap, cut an inch off, and hammered the cap back on.

For some reason though, I thought they had put 13.5 wide tire on that may have been the determinator as most here will use a 12.5 wide. If the same dream holds true, they were running like a -44 offset tire which is about the highest poke out you'll find.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I just felt I should share my concerns so others would be on the lookout for this possible, now probable issue with larger wheels and tires.

I honestly believe that the reason they had to trim the rock rail was because of the offset on the wheels. I went and looked at one last night on a dealer lot and there is plenty of room for 35s and with a 2 inch lift I'd bet 37s on the correct rims and 12.5 width will be fine. That crazy offset all but ensures that you will rub as you turn to full lock.

So what does everyone hear about 35s on the stock Rubicon wheels? I just got mine Saturday and am trying to sort this out. I'd really just like to add 35s to my stock wheels with no lift. The Rubicon already sits 2in higher than the Overland or Sport and already has the upgraded fox shocks so...seems like this should work.

This is my plan as well, putting 35’s on the OEM JT Rubicon wheels and no other changes. I believe the only potential catch here would be with a specific tire which isn’t quite accurate with the sizing info (e.g. tire states it’s a 35 but actually has dimensions of a 36+) or if one tries to go for something too wide...

It will work. It has been done many times already. I am going to be running 37s on stock rims and a 2 inch Mopar lift. Just like this fine fellow except I will be wearing red. I like to keep my tires under my truck.

Are you guys having to recalibrate the speedometer after installing 35’s or 37’s?

@MoaKane just started a new thread with pics of his white gladiator on 35’s stock tires no lift

Did you have to put spacers on the wheels and what is the exact tire size and manufacture

I put 35s on my rubicon this week. The transmission/ acceleration is off now for sure. I plan to take it back to the dealer this week. They did not recalibrate and now it revs high and is slow to accelerate.
