is your fiskars a splitting axe to chop wood or a felling axe to cut trees down?

I would consider it a "boy ax". I use it mostly to clear brush up to a couple inches or split small pieces of wood for a fire. Dropping trees with an ax is hard work and like stated a saw is probably more ideal for that.

oooh, excellent points on the sawzall blades. I'll bring a little pack of wood/nails, metal, pruning and be good to go.

And you can always "refuel" off of your truck.
true.....i've got 4 9amp and like 6 5amp batteries. Also probably will bring the milwaukee fan and radio with. God the years of packing light in boy scouts are gone to me, lol.

I carry just an average axe and this little critter. Bought the upgraded battery pack... love it. Definitely won’ fall a redwood but for small stuff that blocks a trail or to cut a downed tree for firewood, this is my goto

that's kinda what I was thinking, small axe for chopping some firewood, carry my milwaukee chainsaw for those bigger tasks like a downed tree in your path.

cool, didn't know black and decker made a chainsaw.

Keep in mind I don't overland, but rather I drive as far on forest service roads / jeep trails as possible, then I leave the Jeep and walk for a few days. With that said I carry something similar to this: https://www.rei.com/product/120670/silky-f180-folding-hand-saw light weight and easy to carry in pack. Hasn't let me down yet and I have made some great fires with it.

MSRP, it is the Silky site.

I posted that so he can see the whole product line, not necessarily a "buy here" link.

i'm not much of an axe guy, but if i'm making my jeep look the part, and intend to actually use it for overlanding.

What axe length should i get a 28" or 36" I'm 5'7".
As a guy who has used an axe to cut firewood by the cord and heated a home, I can swing an axe, albeit today I own 2 Husq 455 Rancher chainsaws...go with the 28, the 36 will be too long for you

You'll be impressed.

I was watching the Expedition Overland Alaska /Yukon series and one of the dudes let's a machete get away from him wearing a pair of shorts and gets him what could have been a very serious wound a long way away from a doctor.

First thing I thought of was this thread when I saw it.

The Silky saws are available with different teeth for different wood, each with a different colored handle. The one I have has the orange handle, and it is also the only one with a curved blade. That is very handy when undercutting something laying on the ground. They make a variety of other saws as well, and all are reasonably priced for the quality.

I have managed to find myself locked behind a gate twice in my life without the ability to call someone to let me out. So when I head out on our adventure commute, I will definitely take the sawzall. It will quickly process wood for cmap fires, and if I need it to clear a damaged body panel or whatever. Neither of those will do what a chainsaw will, but no fuel/oil and saves space.
Great idea. I also have a hacksawzall from Milwaukee, but Instead of your silky, I have the Corona blade, and haven't needed to replace the blade yet. This thing is a beast:
