How many have other jeep projects to tow?

I figured I would post a little about our other Jeep. We have been building this for a while. Father and son project when he is home from college.

The only original Jeep parts left from 1946 is the front grill and the VIN tag. We started with a brand new reproduction body, hood, windshield and tailgate. Then we cut the body in half and started modifying for the stretch. I had the frame bent up to my specs from Throttle Down Kustoms, they did an amazing job and were super fast. Once the body was stretched in the sides and floor we made all new hat channel supports for the entire bottom of the body. When we are finished with all the major fabrication we will pull it back apart to finish welding the subframe in and drilling for the flat belly pan to attach to it.

Stretched 1946 Willys CJ2A - Ultra 4 style buggy
Custom Mandrel Bent Frame - 2" x 4" x 3/16"
Custom Front Winch Bumper - 3/16"
Custom Lower Subframe with flat belly - 3/16"
Body Stretch - 8" in doors, 7" in the hood
Highlined Fenders
Wheelbase - 105" wheelbase - 25" stretch
It will run up to 40" tires with low center of gravity
LS engine, 4L85E Trans, Atlas Race Case, Spidertrax Axles and Fox Coilovers

Making a custom 7" stretched hood. We used a stock hood and cut out the front and rear to make supports for the new sheetmetal.

Now we are working on the front fenders.

We bent up some 5/8" thin wall tubing for the fenders first.

Then we made templates for the sheetmetal covers for the fenders. We then used the templates and cut out the sheetmetal.

We will weld the fender tubing to the hood first. Then we will weld and fill the sheetmetal to the tubing on the hood.

We bent the edge of the sheetmetal for the fenders, trimmed the edges and mocked everything up to see how it would look. Time to weld next.

We are waiting on some weld tabs to be able to finish up the front fenders so we started on the rear wheelwells.

We want to be able to stuff up to a 40" tire so we had to open up the rear wheelwells. We highlined the front fenders so the rear wheelwells had to be widened and raised the same height from the ground. We did not want to go through the rear panel like most to get the stretch in the wheelbase. We did our stretch in the body and frame.

We are back working on the front fenders again. The tabs came in so we fit them, TIG welded them and now will prepare them to be welded to the hood sides.

First we trimmed and fit the tabs to the tubing for the fenders

Next we clamped it all in place for welding.

Then welded the tabs to the fender tubing.

Fit and welded the tubing for the fenders to the hood. We will do a final fit of the sheetmetal before welding it to the hood and tubing.

We did the final fit and welded the fender sheetmetal to the hood today. We plug welded it on the bent edge against the hood. We will bond the sheetmetal to the tabs we welded onto the tubing next.

I think it is looking awesome! I'm actively following along for the eye-candy; just not posting as I'd have nothing to contribute beyond "wow!" or "cool!". I have the utmost respect for your skills, though! I can turn a few wrenches, but I wish I had taken up welding earlier in life (at least as a hobby).

Thanks! Tony is the master welder, he has been welding for over 40 years! This has been one of those projects that takes way too long because we only work on it when schedules allow. I enjoy the fact that there is no time crunch and we can take our time with the details. We probably have well over 200 hours labor into this project.
