I know this is probably a repeat but I wanted to put this one in the context of keeping stock fenders and suspension. I have a Sport and I want to replace stock wheels and tires. What are the largest tire and smallest rim I can put on without reworking any of the stock components?

Bolt pattern must be 5 x 5.

Without reworking any suspension, you can do a 295/70-17 max. 305/70-17 would be iffy. 315/70-17 will start rubbing on the air dam below the fog lights.

17" wheels are the minimum due to the size of the brakes on these trucks.

Installed 35x12.50 bfg MTs today on completely Stock Sport with plenty of room to flex and tow. As mentioned you would need to trim or remove the unsightly giant pieces of plastic between the bumper and the fender. Takes only 5 mins with a power driver 7mm socket. Mounted the tires on 17x7.5 wheels. Looks and rides great.

Actually 5x127mm. JK JL JT fit. JK JL Rubicon’s came with 17x9

What is the dam purpose of that piece?

5x127 and 5x5 are the same thing. How it's printed on the box the wheel comes in depends on brand.

And, no factory Jeeps ever came with 9" wide wheels. Early JK base models had 7" wide steel wheels. Otherwise, ALL JK/JL/JT wheels are 7.5" wide.

What is the dam purpose of that piece?
It serves two purposes. It aids with aero for fuel efficiency. And it protects the fog light wiring, housing, and bulb from road salt, water, mud, debris, and damage.

The last part is why I refuse to totally remove mine. So I shaved the bottom lip to clear my tires.

Its not causing any issues cramming a 35/12.5 onto the stock 17x7.5 rims!? F me...i hope thats the case. I have a set on some 17x9 rims and dont care for the width

Also, some places like Australia, legislate that you can't see any of the tire from the front, so that aero piece helps conceal the tire. We also should nottake off the front metal bumper stubby piece either...

God Bless nanny states!

cheers,
