I guess you could do that. But for me I’m done with that mat project. Mat is installed and well secured. Moving on to a bed step project, arrives tomorrow. Will post pictures of that in the bed side step thread.

Further to this previous message I just got an AMP Research bed step from Dales Superstore. AMP has not had them in stock for weeks. So I called some places that listed this on their website and Dales had about 6 or 7 in stock. Installed pictures attached. Now I can get a step up and into my bed so I can put things like this bike rack in the bed. Note the 4 LED lights I put on the rack: full running lights, turn signals and stop lights. Don’t want to have someone rear end me and then try to blame it on me saying that they could not see my brake lights through the bike tires. Was a fun little project to make the brackets and to mount it all up. Pleased with the bed step.

Thanks. It’s a Westin 5X7 mat. I got it from Realtruck.com $129.00 delivered. Had enough left over to cover the tailgate as well. I cut the tailgate section into 3 pieces so I could remove the 2 factory covers individually if needed. May not look that great but it’s mucho functional and practical. There’s little holes over each cover screw so I can unscrew the screws that secure the 2 factory covers. Also made the project a little fun and a little strain and the brain.

Mat looks good.

Function before form.

Pro-tip a little late.

When cutting rubber like that with a razor blade, spray a little windex (or even just water) on it and it will cut much easier and straighter. (if you saved some scrap try it)
I knew you wanted the tailgate covered, you got it done.

Thanks for that suggestion. I had never heard anything that idea for cutting rubber before. It was a bitch to cut. Will remember that suggestion for next time.

Similarly tires are much easier to cut when it is raining.

Amazingly so.

I'm glad to see someone did this. In another thread, someone mentioned using 4x6 Horse Stall Mats. I noticed they come in varying thicknesses. I was going to get the 3/8 thick version. I'll probably make a cardboard template. To cut that thickness I planned on using a straight edge jigsaw blade.
