I'd say that you already have gone all out, but he'll, you have more planned. Quite the build, impressive
LOL Yeah he def crossed that all out threshold with the plaid custom headliner ;)

Looking good though and I second updating the windshield wiper fluid with a RainX mixture which I do on all my cars...

I do the additive and mix it with the washer fluid... Never used the orange liquid...
i wonder how well the additive works......maybe i should do the additive TO the Rain-X washer fluid........:rain:

@chcg12 look at this post
Where have you been all my life, Gladys?
i just made that 2x8 in the back and that keeps stuff from going into the bed farther.

Now that I have the BSI bed racks, that board doesn't work, and i've yet to modify it, maybe I should do that this weekend as hunting is coming up.

I may have been called a perfectionist a few times. I kinda believe in Its not worth doing unless you do it right ( i thought there is a saying like that, lol).

So this was my journey to make the 2x4 bed supports better.

I wanted the edges to hug the slope better, so I set the miter saw to max 60deg, and cut both sides slightly bigger on purpose.
2 miter both sides large.jpg

Now I put on the truck, there's a gap...good!
3 gap on bottom.jpg

Now I'm doing what my finish carpenter friend calls "walking it in". Its a process of slicing tiny bits off to slowly make something fit perfectly.

To walk it in, put piece of wood on fence, slowly push cut edge of board into the saw blade. This will cause the blade to deflect (bend). The more pressure, the more bend. Don't over do it. Now pull the miter saw up, the blade will fling back to straight. Come down with the saw and slice a tiny bit off the board.
When you need to take more off just cut the kerf of the blade.

Walk it in. Over and over.

Unfortunately the angle is more than 60deg, so there's a gap on each side because my miter saw can't cut greater than 60deg., LOL So much for perfection. Here's why I went to such lengths. As i hoped, the piece sits nicely in the indentation of the wheel well. So well in fact that when you push a piece of plywood over it, it doesn't slide out, or when you pull the last piece of plywood off the truck, the board still doesn't slide out.

Next, the 7" tall board. Jeep suggests 2, 2x4s. I'd rather have 1 piece, so i'm starting with an 8" wide board.
Too wide.

Still too wide.

Walk it in.
Not to take away from the excellent write-up, but for those that don’t have access to a rip saw to cut down 2x6 and 2x8’s to the correct height, the simple measurements for the 2x4 version is:
Wheel well support:
cut (1) 2x4 to length 54”, then to create the angle, find the center and measure 24 1/2” to both ends, then cut that angle at both ends so the top of the board is 54” and the bottom is 49”. The indents are wider than the 2x4, but mine has stayed put for over a week without coming out of the slots with nothing holding it in place ( I thought for sure it would bounce out).
Note: my chop saw doesn’t cut to the correct angle either, but with my brother doing the cutting, I held the board while he lined it up and made the cut.
Bed support:
Cut to length (2) 2x4s to 58”, then walk it in to the final fit. Mine was 57 7/8”.
Put a chamfer at the corner of both ends of the board going on the bottom of the 2 to compensate for the curve of the bed. I just marked off 1” on edge and bottom and lopped off that angle.

Lol, this is brilliantly simple. Wish you told me this before I made mine.

This is why forums are cool.

My bestop soft-top for hard-top arrived like 12 days ago but i've been busy with Covid-19 taking over the world stuff, and now its back to like 30 degrees in Middle Wisco. Next week it should be in the 40s-50s in wisconsin so i'll post some photos of that.

I have yet to open it to see if this hole in the box has F-ed anything up.
