Finally got my new Speed Dawg shift knob delivered and installed. Sits up about 2 inches higher, but I like the sphere-shape a lot more than the awkward stock knob. They didn’t have this one in stock so I waited 6 weeks from order to delivery, about the same as ordering the truck. Their website has the adapter for JL’s, but it took three hardware stores to find the right jam nut

That looks cool. I have a stick shift in my truck. I vote for a white pool cue ball shifter. Love to shoot pool. However I can’t help but wonder how difficult it is to put your truck into reverse now. You said that it’s now 2 inches higher. I would think that it might be a tad difficult to grab the ring thing under my shift ball. How bad is it?

I asked FCA if they had the option yet to send in photos and 3D print or somehow mold a shifter in the shape of my twig and berries. They said, "we do not have this option at this time" so i guess that means they will soon.

Just ordered a set of knobs. Both will be white knobs with black numbers and letters. Am getting them to put “Jeep” on the gear shift knob and “Gladiator” will be on my transfer case knob. Both knobs will be the same size. Will also take about 6 weeks to get as they have to get permission from Jeep/Mopar to show “Gladiator” on my transfer case knob. They tell me that they work a lot with Jeep/Mopar. So they don’t expect any product getting this approval.

Hey @Puttyandnapalm you may be interested to know that they offer an adapter kit so no extra visits to hardware stores are needed. Mine will come with adaptors for both balls. Will post pictures once received and installed. And @Puttyandnapalm thanks for your post letting me know about these Speed Dawg shift knobs. Just what I need.

I ordered both the adapter and knob from speeddawg but mine didn’t come with a jam nut to make it line up.

this video helped with install. https://youtu.be/l2_XofEstlU

Wow, I mean holy cow!!! Looks rather complicated and time consuming just to replace the 2 knobs. I may need to offer a case of Bud Light to one of my brothers to help with with this when they get in. He is very mechanically inclined. Thanks for the link to that video. And FYI I told the guy about your trips to hardware stores and he was wondering if you got the adapter kit.

These really should come with Bud Light bribery coupons.

It really is a fairly simple install, I shared the video just to show how to get the knobs off. From there, using the instructions provided from speeddawg is pretty easy, just placing adapter over spring and tightening down a couple Allen set screws.

I placed an order on the 14th (this past tuesday, after reading some updates here!) for just the shift knob and it came in yesterday -- granted, I just wanted a plain one, no printing or inlay etc. Oddly, unlike Puttyandnapalm's experience, my order came with the proper jam nut. super easy install. The only fiddly part was getting the height of the adapter right to not interfere with the reverse lockout (I bottomed the adapter out at first per the printed instructions and that was too far down, couldn't use the lockout properly). Speaking of, the higher height on the knob does in fact make the reverse lockout a little harder to get to, which I actually think is fantastic, as that was my only real complaint about the manual on here. It was far too easy to accidentally grab the lockout initially. I got used to it after a couple days but now it's not a concern. It's not "hard" to get to so much as I just have to be deliberate about it now. I wish I had done this swap sooner!

I'll have to look into a matching (printed) transfer case knob at some point, but I mainly just wanted to change the feel of the regular shift knob for now. Once you guys do the transfer case knob swap I'd be curious to hear how it went, and whether it actually requires dismantling the entire center console to get to it like that video or not.

My VERY first thoughts after 180 miles on my stock 6 speed Rubicon with Mud tires option.

1) Yes the clutch initially felt very light compared to my 392 Challenger Hemi clutch.
It took me about 20-25 miles to get used to it... No big deal, don't let it stop you from getting a manual.

2) Steering: Very acceptable...not perfect but no "This is crap" moment at any time for me...including highway driving.

3) I do basically all city NY driving so I am averaging between 14 and 15 MPG.
My Hemi Challenger's avg 9 MPG in the same situation so its a win for me .

4) For me, there is absolutely no issue with not having a dead pedal. My left foot is very comfortable on the floor.

5) The Gladiator rides very nice and the interior noise levels (hard top/ no inserts) is not even noticed for my tastes and no one has complained about it or mentioned it to this point.

6) 37's, 17x9 wheels and a 2.5 inch lift are here waiting to get installed.
I will report back then and will be able to compare it to stock.

**This is my first Jeep and I am quite pleased with it and my kids absolutely LOVE this thing.**

Happy trails.
Hats off to a fellow NYer. We all must be in different borrows as I seen only 1 other JT in Brooklyn :)

Will do. But don’t hold your breath. As stated it should take them about 6 weeks to have them approved by Jeep then made and then delivered to me. And FYI I decided to flip flop the “Jeep” and the “Gladiator” names on the balls. Jeep will now be on the transfer case knob and Gladiator will now be on the main shift knob. Looking forward to getting them.
