Once you guys do the transfer case knob swap I'd be curious to hear how it went, and whether it actually requires dismantling the entire center console to get to it like that video or not.
Hey @solfrost I asked the folks from Speed Dawg to email me the instructions for both knobs. Main gear shift knob now looks to be very quick and easy to do, does not require you to tear any of the console apart. In fact nothing from that side of the console needs to be undone. You just take off the knob itself. Nothing below that has to come out.

Now for the transfer case knob that you ask about you do have to pull up and open the top side section of the console. But that’s about it. Also looks to be quick and easy. Can’t attach the transfer case instructions. Sorry but file size is too big. On the video that you may have looked at the guy tore the entire console apart as I think he replaced the shifter shaft too.

Finally after reviewing all I cannot help but wonder if it will be difficult to lift up the reverse lockout. Ball mount is 2 inches higher. That’s a big distance if you ask me. Others have said it’s no big deal for their long fingers. Will have to see how easy or difficult it is once I see mine in and install them. Crossing my short fingers.

That’s coming next, they do have an adapter for that too
Hey @Puttyandnapalm when you do get your transfer shift case ball in (the one that lets you go from 2 wheel drive into 4 high and 4 low) I would love to hear how easy or difficult it is. I have gone through the instructions and it does not seem so easy. Love to see a video if you can. I asked Speeddawg for a video of that and they don’t have one, said they would try to get one. Will try to post it here if they can get one.

Hey @solfrost same for you if you happen to get this transfer case ball. Thanks

Short update:

I just got my Speed Dawg shift knobs. Was super easy to put on the transmission shifter knob, took maybe 5 minutes to do. I must say that the distance between the shift ball and the reverse lockout mechanism is at least 2 inches.

It makes it rather awkward putting truck into reverse. The transfer case shifter knob says “JEEP” on drivers side and passenger side of the ball. The installation of that ball will take a good bit more time and a little tearing apart of the console and putting it back together. So I will wait and see if I like the transmission shifter knob or if I want to take it off before I think of putting on the transfer case shifter knob.

Pictures attached and yes that is a chocolate cat.

It just takes time. I really want to add a steel bumper and then bolt on a grill guard that I can then attach another set of fog lights to. But then I will have another issue to agonize about, and that’s where to put the switch for it inside the truck. It’s gotta look clean and almost factory. The attached is a stubby steel bumper and I want a full width bumper. Decisions decisions decisions: translation fun, fun and mo fun. It’s a Jeep thing.

got my new transfer case knob in last week and installed today. The directions provided are pretty good. Took me 20 min, but the most challenging part was removing the plastic (although it was only 45 degrees out).

also, I’d recommend some thread locker on the set screws on both the shift knob and transfer case.

What is your opinion on the stretch to the reverse lock-out?

i have big hands so it’s not a problem for me to slide my thumb to top of knob and use middle and ring fingers to pull up on the reverse lockout

I'm really enjoying the 2" space between the reverse lock ring. It's so much nicer grabbing the sphere to shift with my full hand and not accidentally grab the lock ring too.

I’m sad to say that after starting the JT manual transmission club almost a year ago later this month I will be leaving it. My first Jeep was a lemon and the new one ordered will be an A/T. there are several reasons I made the decision to change.
1. My wife wants to get more into wheeling but will never feelComfortable if it’s a MT
2. You can tow more with a AT
3. Off roaring in sand is rather tricky with MT

I wish you all the best and will for sure miss my stick :-(
