Well, I figured I would start a build thread before I get too far along. I welcome all thoughts and questions on everything/anything I've done to my JT. If you have any recommendations, critiques, words of wisdom, ridicule, etc, please feel free to leave a message.

I bought the JT in Colorado and asked the dealership to add a lift, wheels, tires and the Aux switch (the only option that wasn't on the truck that I knew I would want for sure. Below is what attracted me to the JT (and the color, and I used this as my guide to start my build. The only exception is that I wanted black fenders and a black top. My first Jeep, an 88 YJ, had black/black, and I like that look on Jeeps.

The goal:

Here's the pic the dealer sent me. He put it next to a Punkn' Metallic JT. I was also considering the Punkn', since it was the other JT from an auto show that I liked. I decided to go with the Sting Gray.

While I was driving to CO in my daughter's JLUR (Sting Gray...go figure), they were installing:

2" Mopar lift
Mopar wheels (auto show wheels)
35" Nitto Grapplers
Aux Switches

At the dealer:

I was extremely happy with the results. It definitely felt different (better) than the JLUR during my initial drive back to Los Angeles. If anyone is on the fence, go for it. This is exactly what I wanted, and I couldn't be happier. I replaced my 2014 Ford Raptor with this beast. I loved the Raptor. I had a 2011 that the dealer took on trade for my 2014. After 6 years of use and 38k miles, I sold the 2014 for $14,000 less than what I bought it for. It is an incredible truck. HOWEVER, I can't take the doors and top off and do the things I want to do to/in the JT. I don't miss it. The JT is that good to me.

Filling up in Grand Junction, CO:

More to come shortly.

A shout out to Pollard Jeep in Boulder, CO. I really enjoyed chatting with them and buying from them.

Some minor additions the past two days.

First, I installed the Mopar front Grab handles. I haven't installed the rears yet, as I need to take the top off to do so. Difficulty level is about a -2 or maybe a -3 on a scale of 1-10. I was a little hesitant about these because some of the reviews mentioned that they hit the windows on rougher roads (and some said they weren't that strong). They don't and they are strong. I weigh 210lbs and do use them to get in the truck. No issues at all. The only negative I can think of is if I want to add a bonnet. I understand I have to remove them to install the bonnet. I'll try that out when summer hits.

After installing them, I went to a local dealer to pick up some tube doors. After looking a lot of pictures, I stuck with the Mopar brand. On my way to the dealer, I got seriously distracted:

The doors were crated up. They asked me if I had a truck to transport them. Uhhh, yes. Not plywood, but damn close.

I used the 15% off Mopar accessories coupon on their website. Here they are installed:

I added mirrors to both doors. They both have that "Object In Mirror Is Closer Than They Appear" look. But I got used to them quickly, and they provide a lot of visibility even though they are relatively small. Fully adjustable.

Future additions:

5" lights, 7" lights, some mounting options. Stay tuned.

OK, time for some basic interior additions. All three are basic but worthwhile.

The first is a cap for the door strikers. I bought these for the JL about a month ago and re-ordered for the JT. Good fit and purely cosmetic. They are basically black caps on the strikers.

Next up are some goodies for the center console. Both were from a forum sponsor (@salex). They are the OCD Tray and Dividers. Both are great additions to the center console. The divider is good to clean up the bottom of the console, while the top holds glasses, my phone, etc.

I picked them up on Amazon. Well-built and made in the USA.

More to come. UPS came through Friday afternoon. Saving that for tomorrow.

Really like your build!! I am sort of aiming for much the same look with that MOPAR build type goal. I love those tube doors and like what you did with those side view mirrors. Would you mind taking some more photos of that look? I am on the fence with what to do with side view mirrors. In my state I actually don't legally HAVE to have them but may opt for them if the look fits. Obviously they are great for safety. Thanks!

Those mirrors look like a good option for the Mopar doors. Come spring time, I think I will go with the Mopar.

UPS came by last Friday to drop off some Mopar parts for me. I ordered everything online from a dealer in San Diego. Their prices were the lowest I've seen (about 25% off everything).

First up was the Bumper Winch Guard/Light Bar (Mopar 82215351). Easy install. Even without lights (for now), I like it. I also bought the Light Mounts for the Winch Guard (Mopar 8225729). I'll install those when I get the lights for it.

87C70B0F-5549-4445-9C75-7A477F129BCC.JPG

Next are the A-Pillar/Cowl Mounting Brackets (Mopar 82215427AB). These were very basic to install. I took them off afterwards to install the lights properly. Here's a pre-light shot:

FAF6042A-AA41-4767-9861-CE8872922B88.JPG

Now for the lights. I decided to go with the Mopar 5" LED Lights (Mopar 82215385AB). I had Rigid LEDs on a previous truck, and I always had condensation inside. They were good enough to exchange them for me, but the new ones did the same thing. I wanted to do something different. After a bunch of research (read: beer and JLForum), I went with the Mopar's. The Mopar lights, both the 5" and the 7" are TYRI lights with the 5" being the 1010 and the 7" being the 1313. High quality stuff, and I knew I was paying for high quality. Given the online discount, I didn't blink an eye. I'll test them out tonight but they were bright. My street ends at a park, so I should be able to light it up well. I'll come back with those pics.

The install: I went with the side mount knowing I can switch it back and forth. I went this way because of my blueprint JT in my first post. As well, I will be able to fold the windshield down with them mounted to the side. I also like the look. I used neoprene washers to protect the mounts. Here they are installed. I hid the wire as best I could. I'm happy with them.

To put it all together, I installed the Badge Glow Simple Aux, and I'm glad I did. I can then move accessories around to various Aux switches as the JT gets built up.

The 7" LEDs will be added later. They are on backorder. Expecting them Feb 5 or so and looking forward to installing them with the Mopar mounts for the Bumper Guard.

That's all for today. Enjoy.

I got the exact same Cowl mounts. I too wanted the ability to fold the windshield forward. Too cold for that for the next few months so have my rigid lights (pray for no condensation) mounted in the top slots but once windshield down season comes I am going to mount on the side. I too have the coverings for the door latches, keep it black as I can. Also ordered gladiator door sills. At first found them unnecessary but I have found that the naked look some times looks a bit tooo naked and I am hoping the sill guards break it up a bit. Also plan on removing the white and yellow warning labels on the inside of the drivers side door on the B-pillar. Just draws away from the clean look.

I am waivering on getting a whole new bumper or going with the winch guard like you have. Also waiting on all that to see if I will even do enough off roading that would necessitate having a winch. They look badass but I just cant stomach having it if I am never going to use it. Feels lame haha.

I'll send some pictures in a bit. Waiting on a few things. Great build you have there so far!

Also was wondering did you research the tube doors a lot? I like the mopar ones but I just question if I am actually getting something that much better than the other options for the price tag they demand.

On the winch, go for it. Iā€™m going to, as I want to use this thing...and hopefully not have to use the winch. Iā€™m with you on the sills. Iā€™m going to try them out. As for the stickers, keep me posted on how you do it.
Regarding the doors, I did do some research. It seemed like a lot of the doors I liked were about $800 or so for all four. I believe there are cheaper ones, but I live by the beach, and I was concerned with rust which happens quickly here with the salt air. With the Mopars, I liked the look and with 15% off, it was close enough to other ones I looked at. I also like the simple look of them. No mesh, no extra gussets with holes, etc. They were my favorite look. Add the fact that I was concerned with cheap rust, I did it. I think Mopar will back them.
On the LED location, Iā€™ll end up moving them around just for a different look. For now, they are side mounted. Good luck and keep everyone posted on what you do.

I'll probably end up getting a winch. Something low profile. I attached some after pics from removing the stickers. Did it this evening. Peeled off what I could and used a sponge and some goof off (with a bit of elbow grease) to get the adhesive residue off. Then finished off with copious soap and water to avoid paint damage from leaving those chemicals in place.

Makes it look so much cleaner. No need for stickers reminding me to wear a seat belt and how to over inflate my tires.

Added some pics. For now I took off the flares on teh bumper to try out the stubby look. I kind of like how it shows off the tires. I have a 3.5" lift on 37" nitto trail grapplers with 18 inch black rhinos (wanted 17' but they were back ordered and I was itching).

(Excuse the poor garage lighting)

I couldn't find the link for the exact stubby antenna I used (sorry) but they are all pretty much the same more or less. Mine was something like $12. No brainer. Also I have tinted the back and front mirrors. No plans to tint the windshield.

Looks great! I think I have my project for tomorrow. Same on the bumper. Going to try it with and without.

Tires and lift are perfect. I keep thinking I should have gone with 37ā€™s, but Iā€™m content for now. Maybe when these are done, Iā€™ll try the 37ā€™s.

Take a look at the black strike plate covers.

Time for a little catch up on the build.

First the easy stuff...

I added the red Jeep grill cup holder inserts for all four. $15.99. Cheap and the kids like them.

Back to LEDs. The 7" Mopar LEDs arrived with the Mopar mounts.
LEDs: Mopar 82215386AB
These retail for $725.00. There were some deals on these for under $600 shipped.
Mounts: Mopar 82215729
They retail for $64.99. Discounts brought them down to $53.

The 7" Mopar LEDs are the Tyri 1313's as mentioned above. High quality, and I like them. This week, I'll take some night pics with a decent camera to show how they light up the trees. So far, I'm impressed.

Couple of questions...
1) How do you like the Badge Glow Aux Board? Any issues with it since the install?
2) What is the view from the Forward Trail Cam with the 7" lights? Any Blockage of the view?
3) Can you post Pictures of the Forward Cam view when you post the night pics you mentioned?
