So I’m hoping this thread will go viral and I’ve suggested that http://sosoffroadconcepts.com/ try to become a site sponsor to get this bumper build on the home page....

I joined OverlandBound.com a few months ago and met a Tacoma driver that had what to me was an awesome rear bumper set up. I contacted the manufacturer (http://sosoffroadconcepts.com/) and asked if they ever thought of adding the Gladiator to their lineup. They specialize in Tacoma armor and bumpers but they were really excited about the Gladiator. Eddy and I chatted for a couple months and I finally found time to drive to his shop and leave him my Gladiator for a week. He’s thought of breaking into the Jeep market for several years but never had anyone will to give up their Jeep for a week or two to let him do all the measurements and such to build a jig and template...so as of now, I’m the only Gladiator owner with this bumper, but I promised I would advertise the S*** out of it to try to gen up some business for Eddy. He plans on trying to add rock sliders and a bedrack to his lineup too. His shop was nice, and I love my bumper. I have a 34.5” spare mounted and it has full under bed protection with integrated steps. Set up to hold two gerry cans and has expandability for hi-lift jack and other accessories.

How about pictues of the latch mechanism, carriers loaded and unlatched with the tailgate down.

What happens to the rear camera?

I’ll add pics of all that tomorrow if it isn’t raining. He is probably going to tweak the design a little for the camera. Unfortunately mine is barely usable now due to one of the latch handles. I will probably relocate it to the license plate bracket. I have pod lights to installed in the bumper still. His original design has a hidden hitch behind the license plate but I asked for a bottom receiver too because I do tow frequently and didn’t want to use a huge drop ball mount. So my bumper has two receivers which will come in handy for my hitch mount hammock chairs.

Pretty awesome! I believe this may solve a lot of problems for a lot of people. Definitely gotta work around that camera though. Cant give that camera up. Do you happen to have weight specifications on everything?

I've always liked this style of bumper on the Tacos, it is nice to see it make its way over to the JT.

Could you also measure how wide each side is? I'm wondering if they could be opened with my OGT trailer hitched up.

Looks like great workmanship! Nice to see other aftermarket manufacturers expand into the JT line. :like:

Got a photo from the side? I like how the bumper wraps around the corners. It also looks like the swing-away arms can be removed with a BFW for those who don't want to run it with the spare all the time. I would only use it when overlanding so I could carry a second spare (ask @Mark Doiron why that is a good idea).

I wonder if having the swing-away arms of unequal length to allow the tire to be centered would work better? That way the rear camera can be relocated to the spare like on the carriers made for Wranglers (peeking out of the wheel cut-outs). Put a jerry cans (or rotopax) on either side of the tire...

@cgflyer I see the camera is a no go. How's your view out of the center rear view mirror with a 35 mounted up there?

I will add some pictures tonight or tomorrow of everything you guys are asking about. Camera still works and I can see, but definitely not like stock and I do tow frequently so backing up to my trailer wasn't as easy, but hoping that I can relocate it to the license plate bracket. I will measure each swingout, but I think they are roughly 28"...the view from inside isn't bad at all in my opinion, but with my tent mounted, I think I will just about lose all rear view anyway.

It could, but I know Eddy was trying to keep the design as close to his Taco templates as he could plus the longer the swing out for the tire carrier the more force you place on the hinge...but there are other bumpers now...just saw one in another thread that is pretty cool but I think Eddy's will save you about $200-$400.

The guy that I met with the "same" bumper on his taco tows a overland trailer and said he has no issues opening the swing outs and tailgate with his trailer, but I will measure.

Here are some more pictures. Eddy is aware of the issues with the camera and will be modifying it. The swing outs are 30” from center of the bumper to the center of the hinge. Each swing out has a spring loaded T-handle that locks them in place when open and there are two latches that keep them closed.

I’m happy to see the swing away spare tire bumper finally coming to the Gladiator. I posted about this very subject on this site weeks ago.

While I like the idea the execution is challenging and the camera in the tailgate is very important. I hope this design continues to evolve and improve and the market will come.

I need a swing out rear bumper. I'm going 38s and would love the availability to have 2 spares for my "trips". I love the dual swing out design and the side protectors with built in step. If he is able to redo the handle (easiest) or relocate the camera I'm in. Where are they located? I see you have VA plates.

Here's the thread I started at Christmas regarding swing-away rear bumper tire carriers - there's a dual swing-away rear bumper posted there too...
