I am working on a DIY solution and wondered why this end "L" bracket is there as well. I cannot imagine that it is in any way load bearing since it is plastic, but then again I am a software engineer, not a mechanical one.The Trail Rail setup utilizes an endcap with an integral "L" bracket (circled in blue below) that provides attachment to the bed orthogonally relative to the attachments along the length of the rail. It's probably not a necessary attachment point anyway, but noted that your system doesn't utilize that rear attachment - did you determine that it's not critically load bearing and on that basis not utilize this in your rail system? Thanks.
I was thinking that maybe it is there to prevent debris from getting lodged between the end of the rail and the bed, or possibly as a bump stop for the cleat.
