I picked up my JT a little over a week ago. Love it so far. Bit of a gas guzzler, but it was to be expected. Surprisingly it’s worse than my 3.8 JKU on 37s was!

for reference I had my 08 JKU Sahara with about a 4inch Metalcloak lift, fore mentioned 37s, 4.88 gears, 1 ton steering and loads of stuff to support it all. It was my first Jeep. I decided to sell it because I’ve been needing a truck able to tow a small camper. The JK was limited by the 3.8 and further choked down by the extra weight and tire size.

The plan with this JT is a more modest build. Keeping the weight down is going to be very influential. I went with the max tow for obvious reasons including the 4.10 gears. Paired with the 3.6, it should be plenty powerful to tow the 2500lb camper. Lots of hills in NM; so I don’t expect great mileage or for it to hold 75 all the way through! We’ll find out tomorrow just how well it’s gonna do.

The camper:
my wife and I restored a 1959 Cardinal “canned ham” style camper. It’s no a looker from the outside. I like the patina. The inside has been done up to “glamper” status. Best of all. We use it. We take it for solo weekend getaways and hunting trips. With a more capable “tow rig” we hope to use it more.

On to the JT:

the first day I got it. After a less than exciting first NEW vehicle experience at the dealer, I finally got exactly what I wanted. Heated seats because I’m always cold. Tech package for a little extra razzle dazzle (not sure if there’s a speaker upgrade, but it sounds great as is). Ever popular “MAX TOW” Package that really wasn’t an option for me. It was a must for sure.

Day 1: it’s stock looking, no exciting pictures. But I did get the windows tinted.

Day 2:

I can’t stand the wobble and swaying of the 3ft factory antenna. It was my first mod on my JK. It had to go. Simple solution is a stubby from autozone. $10 well spent.

First week:
I transfer my straps, jumper cables first aid kit yada yada yada. Feels like mine.

get my first ride along. My buddy Coop. He belongs to friends of ours.

So far. The truck is missing something. I know what it needs to feel more like a Jeep.

Had to remove the splash guard. But it’s sits OK considering 35 tires without a lift.

I went with Method Roost wheels in 17x.85 +0

For tires I went a timeless BFG Ko2 in 35x12.50r17.

Looking sharp! I like those Method Roosts. Complement the Gobi well. We have a Coop (short for Cooper) too.

thanks. I almost went for Bronze DV8 wheels but my buddy encouraged me to go for something a little nicer. Glad I did. I was going to go the for the Roosts in bronze but went with a safer option. Even though it’s not as unique it’s a bit less trendy.

She did great towing the camper! Thirsty, but no lack of power or feelings of instability. Can’t wait to utilize it more in the warmer months.

thanks, they matched my JKs set up perfectly. I’m thinking of painting the camper white and tan to match the JT.
