Ok so i have the optimal tire pressure on my rig unloaded just every day driver. But when towing my camper i have to air up more obviously. My tire says max 50 psi i run 30 to 32 normally unloaded. Jeep door says 37psi . I’m thinking run 40psi . 4,600# camper with 285/75/r17C ridge grapplers . What do y’all think i haven’t towed this camper yet with my Gladiator

I would run 37 psi cold. Pressure is going to increase when you get rolling.

I look on the tire for max pressure and load, then decide how close to that weight I will have on the tire. In general, more pressure runs cooler, safer, but harsher ride. I would run at least 40 psi, up to 44, and see how the Jeep handles.

I tried running 50 psi while towing. My thinking was less rolling resistance with the 315-70-17’s near max cold recommended manufacturers temp of 60 psi cold. I found there wasn’t any significant difference between 50 psi and 36 psi from the door sticker. I was running 34 psi back in Fla. I will continue forward with 36.

I run my pressure in the rear @35 psi 37x12.5-17 tires. Towing 5600lbs buggy and trailer. Great ride. Just lacking power on the long steep back road climbs.

So I’m gonna go camping this weekend & towing my camper finally. I reached out to Nitto & they asked a lot about my Jeep factory specs weight tow rates door pressure & for the 285/75/17c ridge grapplers, he recommends 37# all the time. Towing or not.

That shouldn't be counted. Heat causes pressure to go up, but causes the tire to get softer too. That's why all pressures are always stated as COLD pressure.

I've found that 37 feels a little bit harsh, and am at 35 for now. The only way to know for sure is to do the chalk test. Run two lines side by side on your tire with chalk. Preferably the big thick stuff. Then roll straight forward slowly and see how it wears off. If the center wears more than the sides, you are over-inflated. If the sides wear more, you're under. The goal here is to have a perfectly flat tread on the road. Center proud will not only wear it prematurely, but it "catches" on road irregularities and feels harsh.
