WhatExit:

1) To access the rearview mirror housing pull at the bottom on both sides toward the rear of the Jeep or pulling toward yourself while seated. This completely frees the bottom tabs.

2) Then pull the top clips out the same way, basically straight out toward the rear of the Jeep.

3) Completely remove the plastic cover. Note: you do not need to remove the actual mirror, just work around it.

4) Then you can access the wiring harness. I unplugged it to make it easier to strip/hardwire the connections. Striped color wire is positive and black wire is negative. The two yellow are something else and not used.

Is there a mount that can attach to the Phillips head screws at the mirror shroud? There are Phillips heads at both sides (as pictured above) and 2 underneath.

Iā€™m not aware of one and think itā€™s not strong enough.

I just opened up my rear-view mirror mount but my '20 Gladiator only has three wires....red, black, yellow. Am I missing something? I want to hard wire in a Rexing dashcam.

Is the "pink/green" wire inside the wrapped bundle of wires going to the mirror?? Is that the wire I need to tap into?

Yes, thatā€™s what I used and working perfectly several months later. See write up a few posts back.

My wiring from the mirror was originally for an Escort 9500 and now a Cobra Roadscout radar detector/dash cam combo, meaning with a dash cam included in the radar detector.

The way I understand it, if just a dash cam you will have to wire through the fuse box or AuX switches. Someone else would have to help on that setup.

I'm confused....my device is a simple two wire connection....ground and power. If the "pink/green" wire provides power while the key switch is on, why wouldn't that work for my dash cam? All I am trying to do is free up the direct plug in to the accessory plug and not have to route cable to the fuse box in the engine compartment.

It might work, I can only speak from my own experience using a RJ-11 mirror tap connection. Please post the outcome for others.

i mounted my valentine in the same place. I took off the little piece of trim behind the mirror first. Then popped off the rear part of the stalk that holds the mirror. I tried using spades but they didnā€™t make a good connection so a quick solder and tape. Then popped the small piece of trip back on the stalk, then put back the u shaped piece of trim behind the mirror assembly.

I thought of using two different places to tap into. One is the small cannon plug next to the stalk when I remove the u shaped piece of trim. I wasnā€™t getting a good power read on it tho but I definitely see the red wire with the pink, yellow and black wires. Tucked that back up. I also removed (mostly- actually just pulled it back far enough to get access) the large piece of trim across the whole windscreen. Again, cannon plug- wire spades not making a good connection and read somewhere that it wasnā€™t a good idea as some of these wires if not handled well can upset some of the computers in a bad way. Didnā€™t feel like a good idea to me so I buttoned it back up again. And then did the bit in the stalk. Simplistic. The time consuming part was that it was my third spot but itā€™s clean, no pinching of wires or trimming to get my power cord out to my unit.
Just my .02
Works well for me

Thanks for posting, I've been using Blackvue dash cams for years. Now that I've moved from my former JKU to a Gladiator I have to reinstall my Blackvue, and where to pull power from is useful for me. I was using a mirrortap MTX-2015

I looked up what a mirrortap is, pretty self explanatory but still, and it looks like the same thing I picked up off of amazon. I'll see if I can take a quick pic later today of which wires I used.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I thought this was the best place to post.

THANK YOU RSK!

The information you posted on (1) removing the cover above/behind the mirror and (2) the wire colors was spot-on and your post and info made installing my V1 radar detector super easy! Thanks a lot!

FYI:

I used a Clutch-It - great product at a great price! I mounted the adhesive disk to the back of the rearview mirror on the passenger side and this unit magnetically attaches to the disk. I put another disk on the top of my Valentine 1 radar detector and that was it! Works great!

I used these to tap the red/striped power/positive wire and the black/negative wire inside the Adaptive Cruise Control housing behind the rearview mirror.

<EDIT>: I could NOT use this RJ11 cord to connect the Valentine 1 radar detector to the Valentine One wire tap I already had as the order of the wires in the connectors isn't correct. I ended up making my own. ShadowsPapa should be pleased to hear this :)<end EDIT>

This would be a good option:

I used the same as inline power cord as above. I tried to push the pins into the respective slots in the OEM plug but could not get power. I also ordered the same Tap It package as listed above (16 to 18 gauge). While those appear to have worked, I would go for the 20 to 22 gauge instead:

A big thank you to @RSK and @WhatExit? for all the previous leg work!
