OP thanks so much for posting this thread. In the 90s I was a Navy FC. I worked on Fire Control radars. Since then I've been enterprise IT...wireless....security....so I know RF well. This just didn't occur to me. I really appreciate it. I hang my keys right next to my door. I ordered this...
The good news for us....Jeep phone unlock is a cellular thing not BLE. low tech baby! 'Ancient' app to cloud to connected car over cellular....have fun jacking that.
I went through BAM... was 833$ shipped. Mopar is Premium twill period. There is no lesser model as Bestop sells... a 100$ cheaper model. It's nice Bestop has a lesser model but it is not worth saving that $100 versus their premium twill.
As with anything mopar just plug in the part # and go for...
While a REAL tick can happen as OP has, many people interpret fuel injector and AC clutch chatter as 'engine ticking'.
You should have heard the loose HLAs ( hydraulic lash adjusters ) on my GT500 when cold. THAT was a tick! It was fine though. Loose supercharged engine good.
Reminds me of Mopar v Bestop Sunrider. It's a weird one. Bestop sells the Sunrider to consumers...but ships all of the service parts. You put it all together. Many people have issues.
Mopar sells the consumer part. All assembled....wam bam on.
So...Bestop OEMs the consumer part to Mopar but...
Man in 2022 I'll be unlocking my doors with a key. Locking them with the power lock button when I exit...and pressing a key on a start button to start it. When I bought this in 2021 I wanted to add proximity locks. This thread changed my life. Lmao.
Will still have phone lock/unlock as well.
So the only remaining vector is tow truck or they bring their own ECM/SGW/BCM with fob, install that into my truck.....
Yeah the only remaining vector is tow truck. I'm good with that. Oh...and carjacking. Lol...not for a Gladi tho.
Even if you want to keep an RF fob for proximity START, Threedom has much smaller ones you put all your stuff into. The Mini.
I am not affiliated with them at all...just saw their ad today and checked it out. Saw their key holders mentioning RFID pocket and I'm like OH SHIT.
Yes. You have to physically touch the key to the start button while pressing though....getting the area of the RFID as close as possible or you may have issues.
This exists so a dead fob won't cause a no start.
You'll need the Threedom key holder with RFID pocket. Pics above. Looks like...
