I use the Redarc brake controller. Itās a nice clean install and it works very well. Make sure that your weight distribution hitch includes trailer sway control. I think most of them do, but just make sure it does. I also suggest that you check the payload rating for your Gladiator and make...
You didn't mention which Gladiator model you have and what the tow rating is. I have a Rubicon with the 3.6L Pentastar. The Rubicon's rating is 7000 lbs I tow a 5800lb trailer (with tandem axles) in California. It has handled Hwy 395 in the Eastern Sierras at altitudes as high as 8000+ft. I...
The title of your post is odd. There is no such thing as a "factory tow package minus the receiver". The factory tow package come with the Mopar receiver plus other cooling and electrical mods to handle the loads. So if your Overland does not have the Factory tow package spelled out on the...
Yup, There are differences between the GC and the JT. The ones I mentioned plus the ones you mentioned, plus curb weight, unibody versus cab on chassis, braking capability and others. However, I still think the GC 4XE gives us the best clue. If we look at it a bit differently and compare...
Sergio wasnāt that good either since he kept canceling new products for Dodge and Chrysler. Stelantis execs were definitely worse though. Who in their right mind cancels models without replacement models ready to go? The Hornet is a joke if you think it backfills all of the canceled Chargers...
I will add to what others have said about if it's stock do the basic things first. My Rubicon wandered when I first took delivery. I had the dealer check the alignment and it was out of spec so they corrected it under warranty. Check something like this first
Iād look to the Grand Cherokee 4xe tow rating as a clue. With the tow package the GC 4xe is rated at 6000lbs. Thatās what I remember when I was looking at the GC owners manual for the 2024 model year a while ago. The Gladiator might be a bit heavier and the grill may be a limiting factor for...
That trailer gets a No vote from me. You have to assume youāll be towing the GVWR of the trailer which is 6147 lbs. This is because youāll want to load it with all the stuff you want to go camping with: food, chairs, pots and pans, grills, so on and so on. Youāll be near or at the GVWR before...
My trailer is about 5800lbs and I keep speeds at 55 mph, 58mph tops. I feel I am at the max for the Rubicon. I let the auto transmission choose the gears for the most part. I never see 8th gear. On level ground itāll occasionally be in 7th. Hills will cause it to downshift to 4th, sometimes 3rd...
5800lbs is as loaded weighed in a CAT scale. The GVWR is 6200lbs. The unloaded weight is around 5000lbs. I never weighed it that way so Iām estimating. If you donāt wiegb it unloaded you never really know because the trailer always has options and the manufacturer only quotes the unloaded...
Cool. I thought you might be like me and have a Rubicon or some other less tow capable model. Your setup is like mine. Youāre pushing near the limits but not over. I have a Rubicon and a 5800lb trailer. I just came back from a trip to Anza Borrego State park. The elevation profile is 700...
Have you checked all of your numbers? Your trailer is likely 6610 lbs loaded assuming, you load it like the former trailer. Add a spouse, two grandkids 3 dogs, trailer tongue weight, truck options like the 37 inch tires and you are well over the truckās Gross Weight Rating. Youāre probably...
The 5,000lb GVWR trailer is getting you in the ballpark but it's more complicated than just the truck tow rating and the trailer's weight. The JTRD has a GVWR that tells you the maximum loading for your truck. GCWR is the Gross Combined Weight rating for your truck and the trailer. You have...
You don't have enough margin to your tow rating to tow that trailer. You should consider the GVWR of the trailer as the weight you need to tow and then your tow rating should exceed that number with a decent margin(10-20%). The trailer GVWR is likely the weight of the trailer once you load it...
Dang. I just checked my files and I can't find that repair order. All I remember is the repair order stated that they adjusted the toe settings to spec.
I had a similar experience with wander on my new 2023 JTR, although maybe not quite as bad because I never thought it was dangerous. After a few months hoping it might be a tire break in issue I had the dealer check it out. The alignment was out and they readjusted it. That corrected my problem.
I have a ā23 Rubicon and have similar experiences. Mine seems to hang onto lower gears longer than I wouldāve thought too. However, my mileage is slightly better than yours. I am getting around 16 mpg in normal driving. I am interested if anyone has answers to your questions!
I bought my travel trailer before I bought my JTR. If one has to go then it will be the trailer!
Sales people will always tell you that your truck can do it. They want the sale. My trailer is about 5,800 lbs loaded. When I went to a CAT scale to check things out I found I was right at...
