It all depends on what you think the biggest contributor is to the problem. I think the dry start is the lesser of the evil; therefore, I choose to buffer viscosity drop with both a 5W30 and dump the oil every 4,000km.
If a person were to prioritize/identify dry starts as the...
Yes... I dont think people realize how much viscosity oil loses over time/use. If 0W20 is questionable when fresh... it is definitely sub standard for the last half of the oil change interval.
I have a supercharged surf boat that takes 0W40 and at about 30 engine hrs into the oil change...
I do 2 things...
0 to 60,000km (warranty period) I run factory recommended (0w20) and I dump the oil every 4,000km myself (+/-mid interval). Goes to dealer for recommended maintenance.
60,000km and above (off warranty) I run 5W30 and I continue to dump the oil every 4,000km myself. Goes to my...
Just sharing my thoughts here... which are 4 fold...
1) no motor likes "dry starts"
2) overhead cam motors dont like to be "idled" too much
3) over head cam motors need much more frequent oil changes
4) Oil viscosity permanently & steadily drops as you drive (viscosity break down is a very real...
Oh man... that would be tempting! I'm up here in Canada so no such deals like that every surface and a guy has to add 50% to the USD price to get to the CDN dollar price🤦♂️😅
My dream continues to be the Gladiator I think the factory should build which is a JT Rubicon/Mojave, no lift, 35"...
The swaps seem to go down at least 1 of 2 paths depending on air intake/cost/factory stock/cool factor priorities. They almost need to be separate threads as the 5.7L swap appears to be quite different than the 392... and the 5.7L people think different than 392 people as well.
Even though the...
Haha... thats funny... I dont know the guy (JSS)... never used him either. I have already stated my position on his shop and JL/JT services and why I conceptually like what he's doing (affordable, as factory stock as possible swaps, for the average guy). You are casting doubt on his company...
Well then go do it. Why ya hanging around here bitching about a shop you will never use for your swap?
Some people get ignored because of how they interact with businesses (i.e. making themselves not worth the time or trouble) and some get great service. I will leave you to consider that and...
They are definetly a small operation and may just want to keep things simple. Likely lots of reasons for doing it the way they're doing it... which is their choice.
Personally I wouldnt be involved in a business that involved the retail public in anyway. People are simply too ridiculous now to...
If JSS sold all the parts, you can order from your Jeep dealer, he would have to mark them up a bit to cover his cost which would raise your overall cost of buying those parts. JSS would then be criticized for marking up factory parts and effectively doubling your shipping costs. When you factor...
If you dont like the "JSS way of doing things" go spend at least double the money and have your expectations met elsewhere.
I think its awesome what JSS is doing... it puts a hemi swap in reach of the average man with some mechanical understanding, ability, patience and ingenuity.
The underhood architecture of the Gladiator is very similar to the ram 1500. (Both trucks). The 5.7L fits in there and plums and wires up so much easier than the 392. Its almost like the JL/JT was designed to physically accept the hemi but specifically the 5.7L🤔
From watching the JSS videos...
I'm waiting for the quad turbo, double direct injected 1 cylinder plug in hybrid hydrogen assist motor myself. I hear they are gonna get 0.25mpg better fuel economy👍👍
