Haven't had any mechanical issues, 5k miles here. I did have some steering and wobble type issues after I put a 2.5 in lift and 35's on it though. Finally swapped out the tires to Nitto Ridge Grapplers, and she rides nice. The main issues on the JT's i'm hearing about are faulty steering boxes.

If you are gonna go with a tacoma, why not get the Tundra? The gladiator does everything better than the tundra, IMO. Then you have the resale. Can't beat a jeep wrangler or JT on resale.
