  1. Busting my own MYTH - oil catch can

Here is the bottom line. Everybody that has put a catch can on these motors gets oil in the catch can. The only question is whether pushing that oil back in the intake is harmful or not. We have a TSB that is telling us that, depending on the amount of oil, it could be harmful and cause...
  2. Busting my own MYTH - oil catch can

yeah, thanks, good point, I saw that, and that is why I put in a little more money and got the catch can and kept my original PCV. Now I know exactly how much oil was going back to my intake. I also was thinking they may not supersede the old PCV because this new one may have a tighter spring...
  3. Tacoma Breaks Down on Trail

lol, full torque and full brake to the same wheel. That will do it. I can’t throw stones though, I just had to change the passenger side intake cam and rockers on my gladiator. No explanation as to why they wore out.
  4. Busting my own MYTH - oil catch can

My Gladiator build was 2019. 1. My passenger side intake cam lobes and rockers wore out on the high lift mode. I noticed the new replacement cam and rockers had "AD" at the end of the Part numbers instead of the "AA" that my originals had. So, this may be the upgrade they are talking...
  5. Clutch Recall (2/23/23): Clutch Pressure Plate May Overheat -- Affecting 70,000 Manual Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators

Since the tranny gears, transfer case gears, diff gears, & Tire size are all in the PCM - even if changed, ie. I assume you update the PCM with the proper software (ie. Tazer, JSCAN), my guess is that load is not considered, and it is a simple calculation to take all these numbers to decide if...
  6. Busting my own MYTH - oil catch can

Some more information for you... I started getting EGR errors around 60K miles, and I replaced the EGR and the EGR sensor. The sensor especially had some carbon crud on it. My PCV line did have oil in it. I was not burning oil, about 1/4 of a quart every 3.5K or 4K miles. I did install the...
  7. MC true dual rate 2.5 vs 3.5

I do not know about Metalcloak lift, but, having a Gladiator since late 2019, and having done a lot of 4wheeling including 5 badge of honor trails, I would hands down only go with the 3.5" lift with 37 inch tires. The Gladiator needs that lift with 37s on the tough trails. The Wranglers can...
  8. Did I just join the misfire club? Yes I did!

If you are under warranty bring it to the dealer. If not, One thing I would recommend is to download the JSCAN software and buy a license for your VIN - $30, buy the OBDLink MX+ OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner (approx. $130 on Amazon), buy the security bypass Cable Adaptor Fits for Chrysler 12+8...
  9. 3.6 ticking

I had some problems with my Passenger side head intake cam and I learned a lot about these engines. On the intake cam only, At low lift, there are rollers that ride on two thin cam lobes. At high lift there is one thick cam lobe that rides on the "flat tappet" part of the rocker which is...
  10. Truck bed storage

Here is a link of how I setup mine and the quick fist I used. 4 years like that now, with tons of tough 4wheeling with no issues, no rattles, nothing loose or broken. It has been bullet proof. Enjoy ! Note: I use those ratchet straps for the safe jack and my inflation hoses just in case I...
  11. Truck bed storage

I am using Molle panels to store my big tools and a Rugged Ridge hard panel folding tonneau cover. It allows me to still use the bed for carrying big stuff. I carry my smaller tools and other recovery gear for my winch in the storage underneath and behind the rear seats.
  12. Spicer Regear, NO BREAK IN or 500 Mile Oil Change Needed

On my 2020 JTR, it recommends Mopar 75w-140 for towing. In addition, I am running Metalcloak Nodular iron diff. covers which I guess because of their thickness hold in more heat... So far, it has proven prudent to run the thicker diff oil -- 48K miles on the new gears.
  13. Gas Mileage?

The Gladiator will get good mileage if you live at sea level and drive on flat roads at 65 mph max.... I get "not good" gas mileage because I live in the Mountains and always drive fast.... However, if you compare the motor, tires, aerodynamics, gears, etc... to other comparable vehicles on...
  14. Spicer Regear, NO BREAK IN or 500 Mile Oil Change Needed

Yeah, I have 48K miles on my gears now with 75w-140 and no problems. Lots of tough off-roading on rocks.
  15. Spicer Regear, NO BREAK IN or 500 Mile Oil Change Needed

I put in Dana Spicer 5:13 gears. They should be super quiet right when you pull out from the shop. If they make any noise, there is an installation problem. Mine were perfectly installed. I changed the oil around 500 miles and there was a very small amount of metal powder on the magnet of...
  16. Gold Mountain and John Bull Aftermath

Holcomb Creek, John Bull, Gold Mountain are great fun trails. We are doing them a couple times a year. Scrapes are bound to happen. I recommend you paint all scrapes on steel because even in California, they will turn rust red. I paint my scrapes every 4wheel trip. Just clean with...
  17. Oil catch can - feedback?

Yes, I started getting EGR errors around 60K miles, and I replaced the EGR and the EGR sensor. The sensor especially had some carbon crud on it. My PCV line did have oil in it. I was not burning oil, about 1/4 of a quart every 3.5K or 4K miles. I did install the Mishimoto catch can, and...
  18. Misfire investigation (in part)

I started losing power and getting a P000A and P0300. JSCAN live helped log the misfires and the massive error on the intake cam movement during the misfires.... Bad News. P000A & P0300 meant bank 1 intake cam killed and maybe a dead phaser. All high lift lobes completely destroyed. All the...
  19. Clutch Recall (2/23/23): Clutch Pressure Plate May Overheat -- Affecting 70,000 Manual Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators

In another thread on this forum, we figured out that you can eliminate the "service transmission" light by reducing the tire size using something like a Tazer or JSCAN software. The new Jeep clutch software is using the tire size as one variable to calculate clutch slipping, so, for example...
  20. Rant on Buying a Torque Wrench: How Frustrating!

No, I just believed Precision Instruments website on their split beam torque wrenches. Precision Instruments is out of Illinois. Snap-On is also putting their name on the Precision Instruments torque wrench, so, that had some positive influence on me regarding their quality control. Here is...
