  1. Roof leak in back

I'd been very close to pulling the trigger on a Gladiator but this gives me pause. I've planned on getting an Alu-Cab Canopy Camper on as soon as I get the truck. I now fear that the rear window leak will occur after the camper is on and then I'll have to take it back to New Jersey to have the...
  2. Mechanical Breakdown Insurance

The GEICO pitch, from its website: "Why not just get an extended warranty, you wonder? You could—if you want to pay more for less protection. GEICO's Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (MBI) provides better coverage at a cheaper price than the typical dealer extended warranty. GEICO's MBI coverage...
  3. Mechanical Breakdown Insurance

Thanks to a kind soul here, for comparison purposes I was directed to MOPAR's optional factory plans. For the interest of others, below is the link to the plan (7 year/100k miles/$200 deductible) apparently most comparable to Geico's mechanical breakdown insurance (7 year/100k/$250 ded.). I...
  4. Mechanical Breakdown Insurance

All good points to consider, thanks for raising them. I've been with Geico for 31 years so switching appears not to be in my DNA. On average, I keep my vehicles over ten years and that is the plan with the Gladiator. Helps, a lot, that I walk-bike-motorcycle to work. I need to study MOPAR...
  5. Mechanical Breakdown Insurance

I've always had towing insurance (though have rarely needed it with the Honda and Mazdas). What makes this "Mechanical Breakdown" insurance notable is that it covers the mechanical problems not covered by Jeep's warranty. It's not towing insurance.
  6. Mechanical Breakdown Insurance

The Geico website fine print on the exclusion for "wear and tear" (will have to research what constitutes "misuse"): *MBI Exclusions Exclusions to this policy include regular maintenance services such as tune-ups, suspension alignment, wheel balancing, filters, lubrication, coolant and fluids...
  7. Mechanical Breakdown Insurance

Am just off the phone with a Geico insurance agent to see how much it would cost to add a Gladiator to my existing policy. Was delighted to discover that I could get "Mechanical Breakdown Insurance" for $94 annual. My biggest hesitation with the Gladiator has been Jeep's poor reputation for...
  8. Upcoming 3 day drive to OR, need tips and advice

By the way, for insulation and privacy, check out using Reflectix water heater insulation. It is popular in the Honda Element community to get a roll of Reflectix and cut it (with scissors) into pieces a little larger than the windows and it "tucks" into the molding. Stops the drafts and made...
  9. Upcoming 3 day drive to OR, need tips and advice

Thanks for the update -- good to hear that you and the pup made it okay! Sounds like you drove through the enormous wind-packed storm that started in the Pacific Northwest and hit the Rocky Mountain states hard. I-80 I remember well driving during the last week of April 2004 in a Miata. Gusty...
  10. Upcoming 3 day drive to OR, need tips and advice

Great that you're being so thoughtful and planning in advance! Definitely do not hook a seat belt to your pup's collar. Could cause severe damage, or worse, in a crash. Harness is the far safer way to go. Kudos for being such a considerate dog dad.
  11. Upcoming 3 day drive to OR, need tips and advice

I'm from Mt. Hood and have driven from Oregon to Washington, D.C. and back - in a Miata. During summer and fall. And once in a '69 Mustang with 203,000 miles on the odometer. So that entailed hotels (highly recommend Comfort Inn -- nearly always dog-friendly). A lot of dog show peops favor...
  12. Ride for Georgie. West Virginia

That choked me up. Have been waiting for Sarge Green so am not yet a Gladiator owner. Wish I was, his home in West Virginia is less than two hours from DC. Hopefully Jeep peops in northern Virginia and Maryland will see this event is going on.
  13. Someone's scoping my Gladiator

Sounds like that person was just admiring your Gladiator - they are not yet common. I've lived in the middle of Washington, D.C., for 30 years, park on the street 24/7 and don't worry about my vehicle being stolen and none have been. Have had some convertible tops slashed.... Highly recommend...
  14. First Look at Sarge Green 2021 Gladiator From Jeep.com

More Sarge Green Wrangler photos from the same overcast day.
  15. First Look at Sarge Green 2021 Gladiator From Jeep.com

Yes. I was very pleased with the Sarge Green and these photos represent what I saw. I think the intensity of the green is on par with the intensity of the new Snazzberry. Something of a medium to medium-dark green. Here are those two colors taken in the same light.
  16. First Look at Sarge Green 2021 Gladiator From Jeep.com

If I get a 2021 JT - still on the bubble - it will be Sarge Green. Here are some photos from a visit last weekend to Koons Jeep in Vienna, Virginia. The day was mostly overcast. This color really does vary with light, but not as much as Gator seems to.
  17. Snazzberry Gladiator JT club

I was at Koons Tysons Jeep today at Vienna, Virginia and they had the Snazzberry on a Wrangler. I really like it and have never before even considered a red vehicle. It is a classy red. I'm going to be taking another long look at it before I decide on color. I actually drove out there to...
  18. Day 121 report, still plugging away! 20,355 miles!

Breaktrack, I thoroughly enjoyed your photos - thank you! Inspiring, to say the least.
  19. Winter driving tips?

Ditto this! I have a 2004 Honda Element AWD, original owner, and it is FANTASTIC in snow. Have driven in 15" of unplowed snow on steep curvy hills with ease. Love it and plan on keeping it for the rest of my life. A truly terrific utility vehicle for the city. Though I learned to drive via...
  20. Decided I hadn’t gone far enough....

Breaktrack, This is only the second or third time I've logged on - and am doing so today just to thank you for sharing your journey and these FANTASTIC photos! What camera are you using? Wishing you safe travels and more fun adventure. Dagny :)
