Not all engineers are that lame, some started engineering stuff because the got fed up with crap that never worked right from the real "engineers". Their is book smarts and practical learning.
made my own bike carriers out of Thule bike trays and the square holes for one inch tube on the racks. I used one inch aluminum C channel from Home Depot, very thick and bolted them to the trays

satellite is very expensive, low speed / bandwidth, like 300-400ms ping times ect. wouldn't cost you the same that the AT&T data would and can be easily affected by adverse weather.
Cut 10 In long aluminum c channel for outriggers drilled holes in them for stainless bolts that were included with the rack, put them in the 1 in square tubing holes on the rack and had the thule trays to hold the bikes, got on one each side now. Doesn't stick out past the fenders.
