  1. Towing Capacity - Lets get serious here...

Many diesels are boost restricted for the first 500-1000 miles. My 2015 F350 Powerstroke was like this. The throttle response and power after the first restart once it hit 500 miles was amazing. I was towing a 19k Toy Hauler at the time...
  2. Towing Capacity - Lets get serious here...

I, personally, have resolved my towing problem with the JKUR by buying a motorhome to tow the Jeep. But this solution is not long term for me. I do a lot of towing / travel and most trips it involves mountains and sustained high altitudes like I-80 through Wyoming. I would prefer a trailer and...
  3. Towing Capacity - Lets get serious here...

Glad that it’s apparently working out for you... Head into the Rockies and try a few passes at 7 or 8,000’ and above. The 3.6 just does not like altitudes over 3500’ ASL - you find yourself running the engine at very high RPM while it struggles to breathe and work.
  4. Towed my camper today

OP - Sorry to read of your dissatisfaction with the JT’s towing ability.... Much was and is being discussed here: https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/towing-capacity-lets-get-serious-here.8933/ I have already found another solution for my needs, but am keeping an open eye / mind on...
  5. Stolen jt rubicon

I hope they catch the b@$turd that stole it! I hate theives!
  6. Towing Capacity - Lets get serious here...

Only a couple of states (North Dakota & Oregon) and maybe Alaska, don’t require Brakes on Trailers. Most states specify any trailer 3,000# or more require some sort of brakes. Surge brakes are still used on many boat trailers and they don’t have any need for a tow vehicle triggered brake. In my...
  7. Towing Capacity - Lets get serious here...

I read on another forum that you got the brake controller along with the Max-Tow package. But seeing is believing in my opinion...
  8. The engine

V6 Pentastar is one very anemic engine above 3500’ ASL. Can’t wait until TFL Truck gives it a good towing thrash through the Colorado Rockies ... — Yeah 285 HP on the Pentastar, but at how many RPM? I believe 6400 was the magic number. You all may not care if you’re wringing that poor little...
  9. JT 3.6/ESS with eTorque - same as DT ?

You do realize, of course, that you’ll be using a re-purposed Lawn-Boy Recoil Starter rope to get that sucker started? ;)
  10. Gladiator towing test

The front upright structure on the trailer appears to have possibly clear lexan on the front of it - so that should add significant wind resistance... It looks like a good start to real world testing, however, a 6% grade in 70° weather is hardly a torture test. Try 8 to 10% grades in 85°...
  11. Towing Capacity - Lets get serious here...

If the same people used the same method of testing that they used on my 2015 JKUR to certify it for 3500#, it will be a big fail. Hence my concern. I’ll wait for TFL to do their reviews and a bunch of you guys to be guinea pigs...
  12. Towing Capacity - Lets get serious here...

Towing is all about Torque and staying within the useable torque band of your engine. Which is why diesel engines are generally the best choice for moving moderate to heavy loads. The 3.0 diesel puts out a lot more torque at a lower RPM than the 3.6 Gasser - so from that perspective, I have to...
  13. Discussion: 2020 Ford Raptor or 2020 Jeep Gladiator

I would have shortened this response but the forum software seems to be having a problem with editing the length of the quote. It seems to me that you came onto this thread with both barrels loaded for bear and got the wrong impression of what I was saying... Your comment appeared to have said...
  14. Discussion: 2020 Ford Raptor or 2020 Jeep Gladiator

Seeings how you seem to have all the facts, why don’t you provide the FACTS about what was changed or updated in the Pentastar 3.6 V6 ..... Thanks!
  15. Discussion: 2020 Ford Raptor or 2020 Jeep Gladiator

Yes, I understand that they put a bigger radiator in and a redesigned grill and a beefier frame. You need to try towing something heavy with that 3.6 and you’ll understand. If the engine does not have the nuts to haul the weight up hills and mountains at altitude, it will be a severely...
  16. Discussion: 2020 Ford Raptor or 2020 Jeep Gladiator

Thanks but.... I wouldn’t own an EPA Diesel anyway - your link just points out why the max tow rating is for the Pentastar 3.6. I’m saying that if the Pentastar 3.6 is still only 285hp, it will not have the cajones to tow anything high profile like a travel trailer in the mountains and hills...
  17. Will I be disappointed?

This 2015 of mine struggles in the hills and mountains. Read more in the other threads here. 3500# No faster than 65. https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/towing-capacity-lets-get-serious-here.8933/ TFL Truck will need to do a serious workout on the JT when they get one.
  18. Discussion: 2020 Ford Raptor or 2020 Jeep Gladiator

Don’t hold your breath for a Raptor V8... There’s been rumors since the Gen2 Raptor was introduced in 2016. Ford has a lot invested in the V6 Gen2 Ecoboost and they’re not about to change that anytime soon.... I own both these vehicles. The Raptor has a 13” wider track width than my Rubicon...
  19. Towing Capacity - Lets get serious here...

You’re right - they will.... I just hope that Jeep gives them a truck that isn’t specially prepped or “tuned”... Their reviews and tests of the Raptor Pickup were spot-on.
  20. Towing Capacity - Lets get serious here...

I think you need to tow a high profile trailer in the mountains.... Heck, even without a trailer at. Over 3500’ the 3.6 feels like you’re dragging an anchor. Ford has had outstanding success with the Ecoboost engines. Today’s water cooled turbos don’t have near the troubles that oil cooled ones...
