I stuck a Frontrunner Slimline II rack on top of my ZroadZ rack and mounted an awning to it. The top rack raised the awning to an acceptable level and greatly increased my storage options. Here's a pic showing how the pieces fit together:
There's a picture of the inside of my awning setup...
I am still happy with it and the finish is holding up great. The only problem I've had since installing it is that the doors can be a little hard to open and close and they squeak a bit when they do. I suspect the hinges are a little out of alignment and I could probably fix this by loosening...
I don't know about the tonneau, but I have an OVS 270-degree awning and the gate doesn't interfere. However, my awning is mounted to a Front Runner rack which is on top of the ZROADZ, so YMMV...
Not a headache rack, but it appears that ZROADZ will be releasing a rear gate option for their rack. No info on their website yet, but here are a couple pics from Instagram:
I was waiting for the 'coming soon' rack but finally decided I couldn't wait any longer. I was also certain that it would become available as soon as I ordered the ZROADZ. Nope! Then when my ZROADZ order was delayed, I was certain that at least more details would come out before I took delivery...
@Rokon Yup, that's Wall #1 and it does have the "door" in the panel closest to the right side of the photo. Wall #1 is also made of two separate panels that are zipped together so you can roll half of it up if you want.
I also got one of the OVS Nomadic 270 awnings recently. Mine is mounted to a Frontrunner tray atop a ZROADZ rack. I've only used it once, but I'm loving this awning so far. Here's a pic with one of the walls installed. The walls really enclose a lot of space!
@4shizzy Sorry to hear I beat you to getting a rack installed with the Trail Rails since you're the one that made it possible! Seems to me they should have installed the first one for you as a 'thank you' as well as to make sure they might work for the rest of us!
It sounds like ZROADZ is...
Here is the ZROADZ rack paired with a Front Runner tray:
This is the 61.4" long by 56.1" wide Front Runner Slimline II tray with the "tall" legs.
I was a bit concerned that things mounted to the rack's side gates would hit the tray when they were fully opened, but it worked out great. The...
I received the correct base rails and the Trail Rail mounting hardware yesterday and have finally finished installing the rack. Here's what changed with the base rails:
These are upside down, looking at the plate that sits on the edge of the bed. The beveled holes are for the bolts that join...
Well, another week and another delay... I received a whole new rack on Saturday, but it's the old one, not the one that works with the Trail Rail. Oops!
The latest story is that the new parts are being powder coated today and will ship tomorrow. And we're back to not needing a whole new rack...
ZROADZ is working on a new mounting option that will work with the factory Trail Rail. That is what I was supposed to get in the first place, but was accidentally sent the original rack. At first, they were just going to send me two new base plates to replace the ones from the original design...
@Baemen I haven't installed the rack yet as I'm waiting for a couple of replacement parts that will allow it to be mounted to the Trail Rail. In my photos, it's just resting there so I could take some measurements... The new parts are supposed to arrive next week and I'm anxious to get it fully...
The side doors use pins to keep them open or shut and do not have any sort of assistance. They're rated for holding 35 lbs each, so aren't going to get unmanageably heavy.
I received my rack, or at least most of it... I still don't have the parts that let it mount to the Trail Rail, but I have the rest of it. At least now I can get some measurements that I haven't been able to get from ZROADZ!
The rack came in two boxes with a combined shipping weight of 163 lbs...
I convinced myself that having those side access doors would outweigh losing the Trail Rail and ordered one of these racks. It was supposed to be delivered next week. However, I received this message from their customer service rep earlier today:
So my order is being delayed... I'll update...
I was very close to ordering the ZROADZ rack but it turns out that it is not compatible with the Trail Rail system and that is currently a deal-killer for me.
Not only does it not mount to the Trail Rail, but the rail must be removed in order to mount the rack. This is what their customer...
Has anyone installed one of these? Like many others here, I've been waiting for more details on the Maximus-3 Overland rack, but now that I've noticed this one, I am very intrigued by it as well.
There doesn't seem to be much info about this rack on the webz, so anything an owner could share...
