  1. Alu-cab canopy Jeep Gladiator #001

Doesn’t seem strange to me to talk about products here. I appreciate your cooler post but coolers don’t live outside in the snow, rain, salt, etc. real metal hinges seem far better to me. Kind of surprised they don’t use a real hinge given the price.
  2. Alu-cab canopy Jeep Gladiator #001

To me, it looks like that really pronounced lip around the door opening will channel any water runoff around the opening. You'd have to really be sitting there in heavy rain for it not to. Just my observation I guess.
  3. Alu-cab canopy Jeep Gladiator #001

That's kind of what I imagine as well, so it's good to get some more information. I'm not terribly comfortable with a strip of plastic as a hinge regardless of the maybe water protection. I open and close my canopy doors a lot. I think a real metal hinge would be preferable.
  4. Alu-cab canopy Jeep Gladiator #001

We just got photos of that. It's just a plastic strip. There's no real hinge. Worries me a little. The new version of the RDL seems more robust and a little more sleek all around. I definitely get the water running down thing I just wonder how much that would actually happen...
  5. Tops! Canopy / covers / toppers / racks possibilities for Gladiator - Show me!

Do you mind if I ask what made you pick Alu-Cab over RLD? I’m on the fence. Thanks
  6. RLD designs pic request

Does anyone here with the RLD have their Ghost awning too?
  7. Alu-cab canopy Jeep Gladiator #001

Oh man, why did you have to post that? I don’t need any other hard decisions to make. I was looking at that Ghost Awning from RLD because I’ve never seen anything like it. This one is interesting too. Looks like more research now, thanks a lot! Lol
  8. RLD designs pic request

Really wanting them too. This is the front runner for me but they seem to be holding out on info!
  9. ALU-CAB Canopy pics and info.

Good to know I’m not alone here! No, definitely not looking to load it up that much on top but it’s always good to have some extra padding and not run things out to the very edge, know what I mean?
  10. Alu-cab canopy Jeep Gladiator #001

This is one of the main issues I don’t want fiberglass, they’re crazy heave. I had a reinforced heavier duty one on my 2013 Tacoma and was over 250 lbs!
  11. Alu-cab canopy Jeep Gladiator #001

Thank you! Please keep us posted on the strength of that plastic after some time. I’m kind of surprised that there isn’t a real metal hinge in there. Hopefully it’s a part that can be easily sourced and replaced. I can’t imagine it will have the longest lifespan especially in cold climates.
  12. Alu-cab canopy Jeep Gladiator #001

Could you post close up photos of the side door hinges? Is there something on the inside or is it just a strip of flexible plastic?
  13. ALU-CAB Canopy pics and info.

I actually use my truck for multiple purposes - camping and off-road but sometimes picking up lumber, etc. (I’m a contractor). You’d be surprised how fast you can get to 300 lbs. I’ve been researching tents too and the Alu-Cab is over 200 odd alone. So adding a rack on top and bikes gets you at...
  14. ALU-CAB Canopy pics and info.

The RLD steel cap says 165 lbs I think. Pretty much same as the Alu-Cab.
  15. ALU-CAB Canopy pics and info.

Okay that sounds more accurate for an aluminum shell. I think the steel ones are upwards of twice that?
  16. Overlanding, with or without trailer?

I had a trailer for a year or so and I ended up getting rid of it due to the maneuverability in the woods up here. Also got tired of the storage and extra maintenance. Personal opinion obviously
  17. ALU-CAB Canopy pics and info.

Man that’s light! Hmmmm...sounds awesome. Can anyone verify that? Sounds almost too good to be true!
  18. RSI Smartcap

Man I’m really glad I found this thread. I’ve been trying desperately to figure out what toppers are out there and what’s best. I like the looks of the RLD and the RSI better than the Alu-Cab, which I gotta be honest just kind of looks cheap (sorry). I actually got to see the RSI and the RLD in...
