I went over the Mackinac bridge twice. It's about 5 miles long and 200 feet above the water. It was perfectly fine, but the weather was nice and I stayed in the slow lane at about 25 mph with the semi trucks.
I have a Curt Spectrum. It's OK. I don't like that you have to be parked to...
Just got back from a 12 day 1500 mile trip. North from central Michigan to Mackinaw. Across the Mackinaw bridge and west across the UP to Marquette and then the Porcupine Mountains. South to central Wisconsin. Back across the UP on the way home with stops in Manistique and Petoskey. I got...
I just installed the same cover last Thursday. So far I like it. The wrench kit supplied by Jeep for hard top / door bolts also fits a few of the Tory bolts supplied with this cover. It definitely helps to have some your own set of torx bits, though, with some kind of ratchet driver.
I need...
Do you know if your trailer comes with a rear view camera? They help with the visibility problem. If it doesn’t come with one, halo vision makes one that has a monitor that mount on your rear view mirror. It looks pretty slick. Also I have the rampage towing mirrors with the adapters to make...
I’m towing a 25’ airstream that weighs a little over 6000 lbs. I have a blue ox sway pro hitch. I notice more movement when I get passed by vehicles going faster than me on the highway ( I only tow at 65 mph). Oncoming traffic on two lane roads doesn’t seem to have an effect on my setup...
I think we are kind of in agreement.
My rubicon sits pretty level even when unloaded. I think the rubicons have taller front springs. If I tried to make it sit level with a load on the back, I would have have to apply way too much weight distribution, and I would be overloading the front...
I disagree with the level rake advice. Like EugeneTheJeep said, focus on the front wheel measurement. Your rear is going to squat some. Hopefully not more than 1-2", but that is a big trailer for a gladiator. Not much you can do about that. What matters is you restore weight to the front...
I don’t know for sure, but I’m guessing around 6000.
Trailer is an aluminum 10k equipment trailer that weighs 1800lbs.
The tractor is a JD 2032r. I’m guessing the tractor with loader, mower deck, and tiller is at least 4000lbs.
The trailer needs to know two things:
When to brake
How hard to apply the brakes
Trailers with surge brakes do the second part themselves. There is a hydraulic cylinder built in the trailer tongue. The harder the trailer pushes on the tow vehicle, the harder the brakes get applied...
My experience driving a diesel (3/4 ton Duramax) is that you really only get better mileage highway driving and towing. City driving and I would guess slow off-roading the mileage is no better than a gas engine. Too much slow idling causes the engine to go into regen mode much more often...
I thought the tank on the diesel was smaller? 18 vs the 22 gallons on the gas. So if the diesel averages 24 mpg with an 18 gallon tank, that is a range of 432 miles. The gasser gets 19 mpg with a 22 gallon tank for 418 miles. Not much difference there. A whopping 14 miles.
I had one on my last truck. Overall it was a good cover. My main dislike was that the tailgate can’t be closed while the cover is locked in place. You have to open the tonneau, then close the tailgate, then close the cover. Also the sides of the cover are held in place by Velcro, so after...
So far it has been much better than expected, but to be honest, I haven't towed it much yet. Probably 50-60 miles total just to get a feel for it. I previously had a 3/4 ton GMC with a Duramax. It does not compare to that. The gladiator definitely lacks power for heavy towing, but it does OK...
I picked up a color matched gator two weeks ago. I went in thinking I wanted one with black fenders and top and cloth seats. They also had a color matched version with saddle leather that I really liked when I saw it in person.
Just realized I don’t have a picture with the color matched top...
