I'm in the process of buying a small TT very similar in weight. Do you know what your loaded weight is? I imagine it starts getting close to the 4,000 limit. Any recommendations on things I should do before buying a TT?

If you are asking this question then my gut would say go automatic. People who like manuals tend to be very passionate about that driving experience and never think twice about the decision. If there is doubt I have a feeling that the little annoyances of a manual might get to you.
