I have been impressed by my Falcon SP2 2.1 monotube shocks. They limit body roll and keep me planted on the road. They are not inexpensive, but still reasonable for the performance and comfort they provide.
I, too, installed the Rancho GCBs and chose them for the same reason of it being thicker steel. They were combined with the Mopar lift. I bought the individual pieces, since I knew I wasn’t going to use the LCAs and I didn’t want the shocks. I’ve been very pleased with the setup.
I’m not a fan of stickers and removed all of them from my Rubicon upon delivery. I also didn’t like the red-edged emblems and removed them. Since the tailgate left holes, I installed an all black emblem from one of the other trims. It’s not important to me for others to know it’s a Rubicon...
I had the recall work completed today. The clutch pedal is even lighter than it was prior. So far it shifts more smoothly. I’ll update as it breaks in.
My BFGs have an orangish brown appearance when left “natural.” It is due to the rubber compound and normal. After washing (no need to scrub unless mud is stuck on them), a quick coat of 303 protectant or similar, as others have noted, while bring them closer to black.
I have taken my Jeeps (JK, JL, and now the JT) to the Outer Banks every year to drive in the sand. They all have had manual transmissions and 4HI works best. I admittedly never air down and have never gotten stuck. I apply the same techniques as driving on ice in NJ where I grew up: steady...
I have driven many manuals over the years. As with each, I adapt to the gearing. The shift from 1st to 2nd on the JT seemed off putting initially, but now I’m fine with it. The odd ratios of most of the gears are something I grew numb to pretty quickly.
Bananaman, I fully appreciate what you’re saying, but had to chuckle at the “I’m old school.” My version of old school was from when I used to deliver auto parts when I was young. I had to rely on stacks of street maps to navigate throughout northern NJ.
I really enjoy the manual trans in my Rubicon. It is a remarkable improvement over the manual I had in my 08 JK. I also appreciate my power windows and heated seats. It is possible to have off-road capability and a comfortable driving experience, and I believe Jeep has been doing a good job...
My intent originally was not to install a leveling kit since it’s a pickup and the rake is functional. After seeing a number of leveled JTs, it does admittedly look better to me. I’m considering the Rancho leveling kit (1.5” front only). Is anyone currently running this kit who can share...
4 Rubicon takeoff wheels, the spare, and Falken tires for sale. All are still mounted and include standard (non-TPMS) valves. Only used for 665 miles. Asking $1,200 and selling locally (Greensboro, NC area).
I’m using the Yakima Overhaul HD along with Thule Hullavator. I’m using the windshield anchor as my bow tie down, but I’m not sure that would be good for long distances.
