  1. RIPP vs Magnuson vs What else?

@MudderTruker Hello mate, wondering if you ended up purchasing anything?
  2. I want a Gladiator but I’m concerned it’s not safe enough for a family vehicle

I wish mate but nope, current gen. It was 2 Star but got upgraded to 3 Star with the addition of Auto Emergency Braking. https://www.ancap.com.au/safety-ratings/ford/mustang/be8eed Safety standards in Australia tend to follow Euro NCAP so big on pedestrian safety and advanced driver tech...
  3. I want a Gladiator but I’m concerned it’s not safe enough for a family vehicle

Iā€™m gonna suggest youā€™ve got a conflict of internal values. I did too when buying mine. 2 star ANCAP safety rating :( The only other car that makes me smile is a Mustang, but also 2 star! In one corner we want to be ā€˜happy dadā€™ in the other we want to be ā€˜safe dadā€™ The best reconciliation I...
  4. Parts prices...UP 15-25%... what's going on!

I agree and this is an important point. I convert cash to goods that offer immediate utility value, or at least store-hold value, otherwise it's just wasteful or speculative. That's why I have so many bottles of whiskey, I tell my wife. My .02 .03
  5. Parts prices...UP 15-25%... what's going on!

Hope is not a plan and you're not wrong. I'm not suggesting beans & bullets or nothing like that, but the purchasing power of the dollar is on the slide. Anyway, back to OP, even here in Australia hard asset 'stuff' prices are up so I'm converting cash to 'stuff' now rather than later.
  6. 6K mile trip in new Mojave through western states - what worked well and what worked so so

For some reason, I noticed yā€™all donā€™t tie your shoe laces. What a weird thing to notice. Anyway, this is was a helpful trip report, thanks.
  7. Rubicon vs Overland vs Mojave

I was in a similar boat and chose the Overland for two reasons. Here in Australia, O and R are similar prices and Mojave isn't available. I would have bought the Mojave for it's transfer case, suspension and off-road+ mode. So I bought the O. I bought the O for Selec-Trac II w LSD because it...
  8. What are the "MUST HAVE" mods after buying your Gladiator? ($5,000 starting budget)

In Economics they've got this term, Utility, the happiness we get from the product/service we swapped our cash for. My must have's are things I know I'll get Utility from immediately. My Overland Must Haves - A 4WD driving and recovery course so I can be useful and not dick myself or others -...
  9. What do you guys do? Shop issue with re-gear

Learn to set your own expectations, especially if youā€™ve dealt with them before. I have a plumber who consistently underestimates effort time, but his quality is good, so I just double his estimates in my head and plan for that.
  10. I'm gonna go ahead and ask this......

Quick sidebar, Any chance you can post a pic of your slotted wheels? Iā€™m thinking about getting some too but will have to commit and import them.
  11. Looking for Bumper

Iā€™m also looking for the same features. I found two so farā€¦ https://www.arb.com.au/jeep-gladiator-jt-2020-present/bull-bars/ https://offroadanimal.com.au/predator-bull-bar-jeep-wrangler-jl-and-jt-gladiator-2019-on/
  12. My purchase is coming down to Overland Selec-Trac w LSD -vs- Rubicon Rock-Trac

Unfortunately we don't get that combo down here, but yeah 4H Auto was what I wanted. The Mojave's rear locking diff in 4 Hi with Off-Road Plus traction control is a cool combo as well, also not available here.
  13. No Mojave in Australia. Start with Overland or Rubicon?

10-4 Rubber Ducky, Thanks for the tip.
  14. No Mojave in Australia. Start with Overland or Rubicon?

Thanks mate. I test drove the Overland with Mud Terrain tyres, oddly enough. Those tyres didnā€™t make nearly as much road noise as I expected, totally doable for daily. Iā€™ll be putting AT tyres on mine. Chris Rock once advised ā€˜donā€™t let your happiness make someone sadā€™ Butā€¦ itā€™s ex demo...
  15. My purchase is coming down to Overland Selec-Trac w LSD -vs- Rubicon Rock-Trac

Thanks heaps everyone. Today I ordered an Overland in Gobi, mostly for the transfer case, gearing and comforts that this here latte-sipper has become accustomed to. I'll post a build thread when I get the rig next month.
  16. My purchase is coming down to Overland Selec-Trac w LSD -vs- Rubicon Rock-Trac

Today I met a guy who agrees with you. He recently crossed The Simpson Desert in an Overland (68,000 sq miles, 4 days with no water/fuel stops)
  17. No Mojave in Australia. Start with Overland or Rubicon?

Thanks heaps everyone. Today I ordered a Gobi in Overland trim, mostly for the transfer case, gearing and comforts that this here latte-sipper has become accustomed to. I'll post a build thread when I get the rig next month.
  18. No Mojave in Australia. Start with Overland or Rubicon?

I finally got to test drive at highway speeds today and I now I understand what you mean, I felt it wandering at around 100km/h 65mph. I was lucky enough to have Ben from https://jeepaction.com.au in the truck with me and he also recommended a stabiliser. Anyway, I will indeed start a build...
  19. Pay Attention, Jeep!

Bonus points - Rivian also built a charge network along the route just ahead of the crew. This is a company I could get behind
  20. My purchase is coming down to Overland Selec-Trac w LSD -vs- Rubicon Rock-Trac

Unfortunately we only get three two editions here, Night Eagle and Rubi (some Overlands still available)
