Go buy the corresponding tap for the bolts. Just gently push and twist the tap until it catches the treads of the inserts. Just installed my kayak system yesterday. Took some shade tree engineering but it works. Local kayak shop set me up with the basic idea and the materials. Took my son and I a couple hours to dial it all in. The kayaks are just shy of 14” long
