I use the cheap $60 steel one from Harbor Freight (500# rating). Does the job for the occasions its needed without investing much into it. Remember in many states you cant obstruct your plate or run at night without plate lit up so keep that in mind, budget another ~$10-$20 for light & wire harness.

2nd that recommendation. Installed Tuffy Console Security Box with its combo lock mechanism (so no keys to fumble with). 9mm easily fits inside. Amazon carries it also for about same price ~$135 box + $35 combo lock.

Great idea. Are they holding up OK, or are they quickly becoming a rusted mess and falling apart? Did you apply any rust proofing product to what I would guess is very cheap metal, if so, did it affect the strength of the magnets?
