I vaguely recall reading about people having issues with the DEF level sensor or a connector or something. Hopefully that's what he's dealing with, especially with it being a '21.
Can you post a picture of the warning? It is standard for the system to give a warning when the DEF level is low letting you know the truck won't start in X miles. Is the DEF tank full? If not fill it up and see if the warning goes away.

Same. I have the mpg as the main unless I'm towing. Then it's the oil temp. I have a 22 and my current mpg disappeared about 1500 miles in. It came back tonight when I went into settings and unchecked and checked the box again. Oh well.
